DIAMOND PREVIEW: Stetson

3/24/2023 2:00:00 PM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball aims to get in the ASUN-win column against Stetson during its first home-league series from Mar. 25-26 at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys rebounded earlier in the week with back-to-back wins over Florida Atlantic to break a four-game losing streak at home. UNF has more wins against Stetson than any other team they have played in program history, and they will look to add on to their total this upcoming weekend.

All matchups are hosted at the UNF Softball Complex and will be broadcasted on SWOOPLife Live. Updates for each game will be made through live stats, as well as on Twitter at OspreySB.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • UNF defeated FAU twice in the same season for the first time in program history on Wednesday, Mar. 22.
  • Put up back-to-back shutout games for the first time since Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M earlier this season.
  • It was also the first time doing it against the same team since last season against Central Arkansas.
  • Have not lost a conference series to Stetson since the 2016 season, which was the only series loss to the Hatters in program history.
  • Ospreys are 11-3 against Stetson in their past 14 matchups.
  • A great stretch of games for Chloe Culp has raised her batting average to .400 (32-for-80).
  • Along with batting average, she also leads the team in hits (32), doubles (11), RBIs (31) and total bases (51), as well as OPS (1.076), SLG% (.638) and OB% (.438).
  • Shannon Glover is right behind Culp with 31 hits and a .369 average, as she is one of three Ospreys with three home runs on the season.
  • Logan Jackson is the third UNF player to start in all 27 games this season with five multi-hit games this year.
  • Kayla Harper remains perfect on the base paths going 14-for-14 on stolen base attempts.
  • Ashley Connor reps the best ERA on the team at 1.77 with a 6-6 record and 63 total strikeouts.
  • Izzy Kelly has a 2.58 ERA as well with an astounding 8-1 record in the circle with 34 strikeouts.

OPPONENT NOTES

  • Stetson has a 17-13 overall record with a 1-2 record in conference and 3-3 record on the road. The Hatters hosted three-consecutive home tournaments before playing in the Bulldog Classic and starting ASUN play. They lost both doubleheader games to Queens but pulled out a win in the series finale. Their most recent matchup was hosting No. 8 Florida this past Wednesday, but lost to the Gators, 4-1. Brianna Clary and Kami Eppley have been the only two hitters for the Hatters to hit over .250, as they have combined for 64 hits on the season. Clary has the top batting average at .393 with 13 RBIs and six runs scored, while Eppley leads the team in runs with 14 total and a .360 average. Gianna Niemeier will also make her return to Jacksonville, as she is a recent transfer to Stetson after spending her first two seasons at UNF. On the pitching side, both Hannah Marien and Lauren Hobbs have exactly 77.1 inning pitched and less than a 2.00 ERA. They have combined for 125 strikeouts and a 14-8 record, including a total of 16 complete games.
    • UNF leads the overall series against the Hatters, 28-18, with the last meeting being a 5-3 defeat at DeLand, Fla., in 2022.
