Halstead Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List for Second Time

Second Consecutive Season Halstead Named to the List

DALLAS - North Florida righty reliever Stephen Halstead was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List as released by the national outlet Thursday, Feb. 16.

Halstead is one of 81 Division I pitchers nationwide to be tabbed to the list, with 21 conferences having at least one representative on the squad.

The UNF righty picked up his second such honor after being listed on the squad during the 2022 season. He joins former southpaw Eddie Miller, giving UNF three such listings in the past four campaigns.

Halstead is also the lone preseason honoree from the ASUN Conference on the list. The senior is entering his third season with North Florida, touting a 3.07 ERA, six saves, four wins and 60 strikeouts in 55.2 innings.

Last year he went 3-4 across a team-high 21 appearances, earning five saves over 32 innings despite missing a chunk of the early season due to injury.

UNF opens the year tomorrow with the first of three games against Murray State.
