North Florida Athletics Holds Hall of Fame Induction for 2023 Class

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Athletics held the 2023 Hall of Fame induction ceremony for its 2023 class Friday, Jan. 20 at the UNF Student Union.
Inducted this year were four former student-athletes, one administrator and one team.Â
The induction was held Friday evening at the UNF Student Union Ballroom, featuring a cocktail hour and dinner before the induction of this year's class. Jacksonville Jaguars Senior Editor and Reporter, J.P. Shadrick, served as the emcee for the event.
This is the 17th rendition of the UNF Hall of Fame ceremony after the first class was inducted in 2007.Â

Kathy Klein (UNF SWA and Associate AD - 1994-2010)
Former Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and Associate Director of Athletics, Kathy Klein, served the UNF Athletics department and community for nearly two decades. Klein was also instrumental in bringing UNF through its Division II days and into the Division I era.Â
Joining UNF in 1994, Klein oversaw the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, CHAMPS Lifeskills program and handled duties specific to her position as the SWA. Her roles at UNF also included overseeing compliance, academic support, strength and conditioning and other sports administrator duties.Â
A four-sport athlete in college, Klein played field hockey, basketball, softball and lacrosse before earning her bachelor's degree from Rutgers in 1968. After working as a physical education instructor and coach at Hofstra University, Klein earned her master's of science from UNC Chapel Hill in 1972 while working in a similar role at Duke University.Â
Klein's career also included a 17-year stint as assistant professor, assistant athletics director, associate athletics director and senior associate athletics director at the University of Pacific in Stockton, Calif.
Tod Ewasko (UNF Baseball - 1999-02)
Ewasko was one of the most dominant pitchers in UNF baseball history, posting a 24-6 career record, 3.22 ERA, 225 strikeouts and just 57 walks. The hurler made 58 appearances and 32 starts, working 279.1 innings while holding hitters to a .261 mark at the dish. As a junior he went 14-3, helping UNF to a NCAA Division II World Series appearance.
Ewasko's 2001 season saw him earn first team all-american and all-region honors as the all-region pitcher of the year. UNF made the Division II World Series that season, doing so for the second time in as many seasons after making it in 2000.
Born in Kissimmee, Fla., Ewasko finished all-throughout the UNF record books, ending his career third in complete games, sixth in innings pitched, sixth in wins and seventh in strikeouts. He holds the single-season record for innings pitched, complete games and is second in wins and shutouts for a lone campaign. Four times he pitched a nine-inning complete game, while also fanning 13.Â
Ewasko went on to play one season of baseball in the minor leagues and another in the independent league, going 10-4 for Evansville of the Frontier League.
Dagnija Medina (2012-14 - Beach Volleyball -- Also Indoor 2009-12)
A three-year letterwinner in beach volleyball and a four-year letterwinner on the indoor side, Dagnija Medina helped set the foundation for North Florida beach volleyball as a program. Medina was a member of the inaugural UNF beach volleyball team during the 2012 season. She went on to log letters in 2013 and 2014, posting a 60-35 record between her time at the top slot and in tournament play. Medina still holds the UNF career record for matches played and won at the top slot.
Medina was a member of the 2012 and 2013 ASUN Beach Volleyball Championship programs as UNF won consecutive titles in their first two years as a program. Medina also took home the ASUN Flight 1 title in 2012, capturing ASUN Pair of the Year honors with playing partner Anna Budinska.Â
The standout indoor and beach volleyball student-athlete was the first Osprey, alongside Emily Strack, to represent UNF at the AVCA Sand National Championships. Together they defeated Hawaii in the first round. Medina would return to the national stage in 2014, going 2-2 in pairs play after defeating foes from Tulane and Grand Canyon.
Medina was a three-time ASUN Beach Volleyball all-conference honoree, while being named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team twice in addition to her tourney MVP honors in 2013. The Latvia native also earned a pair of all-academic honors in 2012 and 2013.Â
Medina also put together an impressive indoor career in addition to her dominant stint in the infancy of the UNF beach volleyball program. The middle blocker posted 719 kills, 384 sets played, 104 matches, 228 blocks and 336 digs. She was an ASUN All-Academic honoree on the indoor side in 2012.
Demarcus "Bae Bae" Daniels (UNF Men's Basketball - 2012-16)
Known to North Florida fans as "Bae Bae", Demarcus Daniels put together one of the most well-rounded and dominant careers on the defensive end of the floor. Daniels played in 128 games, logging 1,022 points, 545 rebounds, 111 assists, 179 blocks and a 48.1 percent mark from the floor.Â
Daniels was an integral part of UNF's 2015 ASUN Championship, earning 2015 ASUN Tournament MVP honors after posting 22 points in the championship final alone. That year was the first of his two ASUN Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was also a finalist for the Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year that season.Â
The 2016 graduate was a two-time ASUN All-Academic Team honoree, four-time ASUN Academic Honor Roll recipient, two-time ASUN Player of the Week and ASUN Newcomer of the Week honoree.Â
A native of Ashburn, Ga., Daniels' 73 blocks in a single season went down as a UNF single season record, helping him finish his career as the all-time blocked shots leader. Daniels was honored as a ASUN All-Decade selection following his graduation and career.
Corbin Olmstead (UNF Baseball - 2013-16)
Corbin Olmstead was one of the best two-way players in the region and the nation during his time at North Florida, producing top-ten marks on the mound and at the dish over his four-year career on the diamond.Â
Olmstead notched 154 runs, 257 hits, 35 home runs, 153 RBI and a .533 slugging percentage at the dish. On the mound, the righty went 13-9 with a 3.18 ERA, 167 innings pitched, 166 strikeouts and 21 saves.

A three-time ASUN First Team selection, Olmstead started his career as an ASUN all-freshman pick and consensus freshman all-american per Louisville Slugger, Baseball America, NCBWA and Perfect Game.
He was a two-time all-american selection, being named an all-american by six publications in 2015 as well as the ABCA in 2016 and 2015. His pitching received national attention during his senior season as he was tabbed to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List and John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List.Â
Olmstead finished his career first in UNF DI history for home runs, saves, fielding percentage and second in appearances.
UNF Women's Tennis (2012)
The 2012 North Florida women's tennis team helped set the tone for UNF women's tennis being one of the most dominant mid-major programs in the southeast region of the United States. UNF went 16-5 and undefeated in ASUN regular season and postseason play under the tutelage of head coach Audra Cohen, winning the ASUN regular season and postseason title.Â
The spring 2012 portion of the year marked the first time in UNF women's tennis program history that the program won the regular season and postseason title. Cohen was named ASUN Coach of the Year, the first of her three such awards, while Aline Berkenbrock, Danielle Day and Lorena Aviles were all tabbed to the first team.Â
The Ospreys also had three doubles pairs tabbed to the ASUN Second Team, while Marina Cunningham and Rebecca Pereira were all-freshmen picks.Â
UNF went undefeated at home and also defeated West Virginia, 7-0. The Ospreys defeated Stetson and ETSU en route to the title.
