Men’s Basketball Wins 95-90 Behind Hendricksen’s Career-High 35 Points
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Carter Hendricksen erupted for a career-high 35 points, UNF shot 50.7 from the floor and North Florida men's basketball (8-11, 3-4 ASUN) outlasted Queens, 95-90, in a display of offense at the UNF Arena Thursday, Jan. 19. With the win, UNF is on a nine-game winning streak at home dating back to Feb. 9 of last year.
Tied at 87 with one minute to go on the clock, Dorian James got position in the lane, drew a foul and drained two go-ahead free throws for the lead. UNF followed with a stop on defense as Hendricksen battled Queens' (13-7, 3-4 ASUN) Kenny Dye for an offensive rebound to help seal the win.
Thursday's game featured 11 lead changes, seven tie scores and a few pendulum swings in both sessions of the game. Jose Placer chimed in with 9-for-17 shooting and 22 points, while Jarius Hicklen hit timely shots in a 14-point effort.

- The first six minutes of the game set the tone for the rest of the night as the game didn't hit a media timeout until the 13:30 mark, with Queens leading, 19-10 … after two more free throws, the Royals created a 21-10 lead, the largest advantage for either side on the night … Queens kept the Ospreys at bay despite a few UNF runs … North Florida and Queens traded blows over the final two media timeouts … the Ospreys had success in the paint, getting an offensive lift from Jonathan Aybar as UNF exploited mismatches down low … UNF went on a 9-2 run to get within 34-32, before eventually taking a lead on a bunny hook from Jonathan Aybar with 3:28 to go … Hendricksen hit two three-pointers and Placer added one more to give the Ospreys a 51-47 lead at the break.
2nd Half
- Queens started the break on a 4-0 run to tie it at 51 … the Royals worked the game back to a tie on three instances before edging ahead to a 74-73 advantage at the 7:40 mark … Hendricksen and Placer stayed hot in the second half, scoring 18 and 10 alike to keep the visitor's lead from expanding past five points … Queens had an 85-80 lead at the 4:10 mark, but Placer scored five unanswered to tie things up … Queens took a two-point lead on an AJ McKee layup in the paint … that was the Royals' final lead as Hicklen tied it with a layup and James gave UNF the lead for good with two free throws at the 56 second mark.
