Women’s Cross Country Finishes in Top 15 at Missouri

Schlageter Paced Ospreys in Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The North Florida women's cross country team earned the 14th spot in a strong field at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri on Friday morning. The women ran well on the 30-foot-wide turf, with three qualifying runners finishing in the top 100.

Sophomore Emma Jane Schlageter took home the top individual spot with her 62nd-place finish, while cutting over a minute off her personal-best 6k time. She was one of six Ospreys to improve their lifetime best 6k times in Missouri.

Jada Williams, Neve Moulai and Ella Chandler all made their collegiate debuts in the 6k race. This was also their second race as Ospreys after competing in the 5k race at the UNF Invitational earlier this month.


FINISH LINE

  • Schlageter moved up 32 slots from the 3k checkpoint, which clinched her the top spot for the Ospreys and outperformed her Gans Creek time from last season by just under two minutes.
  • Mia McLain improved her performance from the start of the race, jumping from 96th at the 1k checkpoint to 82nd at the finish line with a time of 22:05.4.
  • Raquel Lespasio earned the third-best rank for the Ospreys, finishing inside the top 100 at 22:18.2.
  • Camryn Cooney, Isa Leen, Jada Williams & Hannah Martin all finished under 23 minutes, while maintaining a steady pace during the 6k race.
  • UNF finished ahead of South Dakota, Omaha and Southern Illinois, despite all three schools having at least one runner score inside the top 25 individuals.
  • Other notable competitors that the Ospreys finished ahead of were UIC, Creighton and Murray State.
  • Missouri's Gans Creek Cross Country Course will serve as the Midwest Regional site in November.
