JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Thanks to the collaboration of the UNF Osprey Club, office of alumni engagement and countless members of the UNF Athletics community, North Florida hosted a successful eighth annual "Fore" Scholarships fundraising event at the Deercreek Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla., Monday, Sept. 26. Geico served as the title sponsor for this year's event, with countless other partners and supporters making the 2022 fundraiser possible.
"The 2022 UNF Fore Scholarship Golf Classic was a tremendous event," Director of Athletics Nick Morrow said. "We are so thankful for the many donors, sponsors, and friends of the program who came out to support UNF Athletics. It was also great to have student-athlete engagement again after a three-year hiatus. The funds raised will help us continue to work towards our goal of fully funding all 19 teams."
The event was kicked off on Monday morning with a shotgun start as 28 foursomes and 112 total golfers comprised of UNF supporters and staff spent the afternoon playing on the course. The golfers competed on a variety of themed holes including the "longest drive contest", "closest to the pin" and more. This fall's edition of the event featured the return of student-athletes to the course to engage with the day's activities after COVID-19 concerns halted their involvement the previous two years.
"We are extremely thankful for everyone who participated in our annual "Fore" Scholarships Golf Classic," Senior Associate AD of Development Matthew Lisiewski said. "Fully endowing our scholarship allotment and providing a first-class student-athlete experience is our top priority and we cannot pursue and accomplish this goal without support from our stakeholders, donors and fans. Their annual participation and support of the Golf Classic is a vote of confidence in UNF Athletics and a testament to their loyalty in supporting future generations of UNF student-athletes."
The event helped raise over $60,000 that will go towards scholarship opportunities for UNF student-athletes. Golfers had the chance to start the day with breakfast thanks to Lucky Goat Coffee and food provided by the Chick-fil-A at the St. Johns Town Center.
Many important partners and sponsors from the UNF community supported the event including: Corner Lot Properties, Beard Equipment, Synovus Bank, Geico, 1010xl, Lucky Goat, H Brands, Nimnicht, Haug Group, NEVCO, Sawgrass Asset Management, AEL Labs, QuickTie Products, First Coast Espresso, Coggin College of Business, Diamonds Direct, Marinatos Group, Baker's Sporting Goods, Haskell Corp, iMethods, CLC, T5 Sportswear, McCurdy-Walden, CSI Companies, Corporate Traffic, Future Home Loans, Borland Groover, Brix Taphouse, Safari Land and CEM Foundation.
