ORLANDO - When talent and hard work meets resilience and patience, big things happen, and Saturday, June 11 life-changing news was announced for North Florida women's soccer great, Thais Reiss, as the midfielder was signed to the Orlando Pride roster.
Reiss was selected to the Pride's preseason roster Feb. 1 before participating as a training player up until making the team Saturday. Reiss' contract lasts at least through the rest of the 2022 season which includes 15 more matches.
"Thais has shown a great amount of patience and perseverance over the course of this season, and she has fully earned this contract with the work that she has put in on the training pitch every day," Orlando Pride General Manager Ian Fleming said. "We are excited to have her available to play now and look forward to having another high potential young player make their professional debut as a member of the Pride." Reiss is slotted in an international roster spot. The Curitiba, Brazil, native goes down as one of the greatest to put on a North Florida uniform. Reiss scored 42 goals and assisted on 18 more, making the ASUN All-Conference First Team on four occasions while earning 2020 conference player of the year recognition.
The 2017 ASUN Freshman of the Year went on to be named league player of the week five times while also earning five United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region honors. With a flair for the dramatic, Reiss finished first in program history for game-winning goals, which is also good for second in ASUN history.
The Pride head to the Second City to face the Chicago Red Stars Sunday at 6 p.m. EST. The match will be streamed in the US on Paramount+, while international viewers can watch on Twitch.Â
UNF fans can pencil in July 3 as Orlando's first game back in the Sunshine State since Reiss' signing. Orlando hosts Louisville at the Daytona International Speedway, with the contest being streamed on CBS Sports Network.
