Ospreys to Play Remaining 13 Regular Season Games in River City

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida baseball is back in Jacksonville where it'll stay for the rest of the regular season as the Ospreys begin a stretch of 13-straight games in the River City. UNF hosts Kennesaw State for a three-game set between April 29 and May 1 as North Florida plays its first ASUN home games of the second half of the conference slate.

All three games are sponsored by Pepsi with Saturday featuring Military Appreciation Day and Family Day on Sunday.

Against The Opponent 
UNF and Kennesaw State are playing their second three-game set against one another on the season after North Florida went up to Kennesaw State back in March ... the Ospreys and Owls have met more than any other team in North Florida's all-time list of opponents ... UNF and KSU have already played each other 96 times, with the Ospreys and Owls meeting 48 times at Harmon Stadium ... North Florida paces the all-time series at home, 28-20 ... KSU swept the series back in March ... UNF won two of three at home against KSU  in 2019 ... North Florida bested Kennesaw State last year in ASUN postseason play, 6-5.

After 26 hits, UNF's five-run sixth inning, a pair of lead changes and game-tying plays, Liberty held off North Florida baseball, 10-9, in the series finale Sunday, April 24.

Hitting Holds Steady
North Florida put up two more double-digit hit games at Liberty last weekend, bringing the Ospreys up to 19 double-digit hit games in 41 total games on the season ... UNF ranks second in the ASUN in hits with 405 and and is 37th in the nation in hits ... four Ospreys have combined for over 200 hits, with Isaiah Byars, Brock Edge, Aidan Sweatt and Abraham Sequera all tallying over 50 hits.

Weekend Rotation
North Florida is using the starting rotation of Peter Holden, Jason Gonzalez and Dominick Madonna for the first time on the season ... the trio has put up solid numbers throughout their respective seasons ... Gonzalez is getting his first start after tallying a team-high 16 appearances in relief for North Florida ... Gonzalez also leads the team with four wins ... he's fanned 37, walking 11 ... Peter Holden is on a streak of four-straight games with at least five innings pitched ... he's posted a pair of outings with at least eight strikeouts, including an eight-inning effort at Stetson in which he fanned eight and allowed only two runs ... Dominick Madonna is making his fourth appearance on the season after missing two months due to injury ... in his three appearances, Madonna has posted a 2.79 ERA, 9.2 innings pitched, eight strikeouts and three walks.

Of Note
UNF plays the remaining 13 games of the regular season in the city of Jacksonville, including three across town at JU ... Aidan Sweatt surpassed 100-career hits at Liberty last weekend.

  • Kennesaw State is 25-16 and 13-5 in ASUN play, good for the league lead. 
  • The Owls are 14-6 at home and 11-10 on the road.
  • KSU took one of two games at No. 24 Georgia Southern this past week. 
  • Kennesaw State is led by first-year head coach Ryan Coe after he took over for long-time head coach Mike Sansing over the summer. 
  • Lefty outfielder Josh Hatcher awed the nation by posting two cycles in the same week in late March, earning National Player of the Week recognition by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
  • The Owls like to go for extra bases, posting the second-highest slugging percentage in the ASUN at .453.
  • Conversely, they'll put down some bunts, tallying 25 sac bunts, good for 23rd in the country.
  • KSU is very strong up the middle and it shows in the numbers as the Owls have spun 37 double plays, the best mark in the league and ninth-most in NCAA Division I.
  • KSU's .301 batting average paces the conference. 
  • Kennesaw State likes to get the baseball into Jared Rine's hand late in games. The righty reliever has spun six saves this year.
