TOURNEY TIDBITS: The Hayt - 2022

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - No. 33 North Florida men's golf will host The Hayt men's collegiate golf tournament for its 30th year of competition from Mar. 27-28 at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The field is as stacked as always for The Hayt this season with nine teams participating ranked in the top 50 and 13 teams ranked in the top 100 out of the 15 total teams in the tournament. The Ospreys have their sights set on winning the tournament for the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2017.

Nick Gabrelcik will also be looking to defend his medalist crown after placing first at last year's tournament. With an individual win this weekend, it would be his fourth straight of his collegiate career playing in the Jacksonville area.

TOURNAMENT NOTEBOOK

- This will be the 30th time that the Ospreys will be hosting The Hayt, with the first tournament being played in 1992.
- UNF has four first-place finishes at The Hayt as a team and five individual title holders.
- They are also the only team in this field to win multiple titles, as LSU and Tennessee have only won this tournament once.
- Last season, the team finished in second with a score of 8-under 856 only trailing Clemson at 19-under 845.
- Gabrelcik won the medalist crown at The Hayt last season after carding 10-under 206 to finish two strokes over Kyle Cottam from Clemson.
- It will be the second time this season that the Ospreys have played at Sawgrass Country Club, as they competed in the Sea Best Invitational hosted by JU earlier this spring.
- The tournament field consists of 15 total teams, including 13 ranked in the top 100, nine ranked in the top 50, three Power Five schools, and four ASUN schools.
- The field also includes 16 golfers that are ranked in the top 100 and five golfers that are ranked in the top 50 nationally.
- The Ospreys will play 36 holes on Sunday and conclude the tourney on Monday with 18 holes.


FROM THE 19TH HOLE

- Gabrelcik was named a Ben Hogan February Golfer of the Month finalist after posting top-10 finishes in all the tournaments he played in last month.
- Davis Lee had a career weekend at the General Hackler Championship with a combined score of 5-under 211 to share ninth place in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
- Robbie Higgins had the third-best average score on par-five holes at the Coastal Carolina meet and will look to continue his strong play at Sawgrass CC.
- Cody Carroll and Jason Duff will each return to the lineup to play for the first time since the Coral Creek Club Invitational on Mar. 1.
- Brandon Mancheno, Cooper Smith and Lance Yates will all be returning as unattached individuals for The Hayt after each scoring 6-over 222 at the General Hackler Championship.
- Grant Sutliff will also be playing unattached this weekend for the first time since the Sea Best Invitational.
