2021 Rewind

Power Five Wins
North Florida pounced on No. 21/24 Florida State in the season opener, defeating the Seminoles 7-4. Alex Kachler hit safely three times, Tanner Clark homered and the North Florida bullpen spun six innings of one-run ball.

Kachler Makes History
Speaking of Kachler, the storybook season for the graduate transfer from Division III Methodist University concluded with a series of awards.

Kachler became the first player in ASUN history to be named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and ASUN Player of the Year in the same season.

His prolific work on the field and in the classroom helped him become one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Senior Class Award.

The Lithia, Fla., native set a program record by hitting safely in eight consecutive at-bats between April 25 and April 28. He tied a program record for hits in a game when he went 5-for-5 April 25 vs. Jacksonville.

Swinging Sequera
Switch hitter Abraham Sequera homered for the first time in his career in 2021, and he did it in a big way. The senior homered from both sides of the plate in the same game against No. 7 Florida February 23.

He tied a UNF record by doubling four times in the same game during a 7-3 win at FGCU May 2. April 23 he finished a double shy of the cycle and May 28 he launched two homers against Jacksonville in the ASUN Baseball Championship Semifinals.

Sequera concluded the year 10th in the league in slugging and leading the Ospreys in homers with nine.

Freshman Sensation
Freshman Aidan Sweatt was a unanimous selection to the ASUN All-Freshmen team, the lone midfielder tabbed as a unanimous pick on the team.

Sweatt opened his UNF career with a bang, starting the season on a 10-game hitting streak. He finished in the top 10 in four statistical categories among UNF freshmen during their rookie season.

Hits (8th - 50)
Runs (9th - 28)
Doubles (3rd - 14)
Triples (T-4th - 2)

All-Region Righty
Righty Brandon Reitz originally came to UNF as a starting pitcher before closing his career as the one closing down games for the Ospreys.

Reitz led the ASUN with 10 saves, tying the UNF DI record for saves in a single season.
The closer was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Southeast Second Team, the first ABCA All-Region pick for UNF since Frank German in 2018.

The Ocala, Fla., native had a 2.42 ERA and held batters to a .174 batting average, the third lowest mark in a single season in UNF history.

Bullpen Arms
In addition to Reitz's numbers, there was a cast of hurlers around him to solidify UNF's bullpen.

Four relievers finished with a sub-3.00 ERA in Eddie Miller, Reitz, Stephen Halstead and Darin Kilfoyl.

Halstead and Miller picked up a save apiece, while Halstead and Miller held hitters to .233 and .224 batting averages respectively.

Miller finished his UNF career with the second most appearances in UNF DI history, concluding with 81 appearances, 10 saves and 11 runners picked off.

Notables
-UNF spun 46 double plays, good for first in the ASUN and 16th in the nation.
-The Ospreys' 1.02 double plays turned per game led the ASUN and was fourth in the country.
-Tanner Clark struck out just once every 12.8 at-bats, good for the best in the league and 14th in the nation.
