MATCH NOTES
SERIES HISTORY
UCA:Â UCA and UNA are continuing a young head-to-head history against one another ... the Ospreys and Bears have played each other twice, with each team taking a match in the series history ... UNF and UCA have never met in a non-neutral site setting ... the two teams have faced each other in Spartanburg, S.C. and Jacksonville, Ala. ... UNF and UCA saw each other in the ASUN Crossover a year ago at Jacksonville State ... North Florida took that contest, 3-1 ... Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana paced the match with 21 kills and 18 digs in a dominant effort ... UCA took the first-ever meeting, a five-set decision Nov. 22, 2008.Â
UNA: North Florida and North Alabama are facing off for the sixth time since 2018 ... North Florida and UNA first faced off in 2018, with the Ospreys winning a five-set contest in Florence, Ala. ... the Ospreys haven't dropped a match against the Lions, taking all five meetings ... this is the second time in as many seasons that North Florida and UNA have played in a city named Jacksonville ... ironically, both of those matches are still considered neutral site matches ... UNF won that contest, 3-0, in the final of three meetings in the ASUN Crossover ... North Florida and UNA have gone to five sets on two instances and four sets twice.
SCOUTING REPORT
2. Scouting Report
UCA: UCA is 10-7 and 2-2 in league play this season ... the Bears have won and lost matches in stretches this season ... UCA opened the year with a sweep of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Missouri State, defeating Tennessee Tech, Oral Roberts and Missouri State ... from there, they ran into a very tough tourney in Houston, dropping a trio of matches to Houston, Oregon State and Alabama ... UCA serves the ball well, having posted 92 aces on the year, permitting only 73 ... the defensive effort has been distributed primarily across four different student-athletes ... Caylan Koons, Alexis McDaniel, Alexis Stumbough and Leigh Maher all have at least 115 digs ... Caylan Coons was named ASUN Freshman and Setter of the Week last week, while Alexis Stumbough was named Player of the Week.
UNA: UNA is having a strong season in year one under the tutelage of head coach Tristan Johnson ... the number standing out above all other numbers is their opponents' hitting percentage, which sits at an anemic .138 ... UNA's opponents hitting percentage is the best in the league and fourth-best in the NCAA ... UNA is posting the 12th-most digs/set in the nation at 16.72 ... UNA blanked EKU, but has dropped decisions to Bellarmine, Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State ... the Lions rely heavily on Taylor Floyd and Anna Katherine Griggs, who combined have totaled over 300 kills on the year ... UNA will use three different setters.
AN OSPREY WIN WOULD…
vs. UCA: Give UNF two-straight wins against Central Arkansas ... make UNF 2-0 in the last 12 months and change against the Bears ... bring North Florida to an undefeated record against UCA in cities named Jacksonville after defeating UCA in Jacksonville, Ala., a year ago.
vs. UNA: Carry the Ospreys to a 6-0 record against the Lions in the head-to-head series ... make North Florida undefeated against UNA in neutral settings and in ASUN matches ... give UNF two wins in just under 13 months against UNA.
BOLSTERING THE BLOCK
After making it known to the nation that UNF put up big blockers at the net in 2021, North Florida has continued that trend in 2022 as the Ospreys have outblocked foes in seven-straight matches. UNF has paced the contest in that category in each match dating back to a mid-September bout against Auburn. North Florida has twice reached 14 blocks in a match this year, with the most recent instance coming in the last match Oct. 1 at Austin Peay. Kierstyn McFall and Maddie Boyd are a big reason for the big UNF block. The duo has combined to tally 93 blocks.Â
WE'RE COOKING!
Assuming the setting duties last weekend, Savannah Cook uncorked a well-rounded and savvy effort in the 3-1 win at Austin Peay. The freshman posted 42 assists, 9 digs, 4 kills, 2 blocks and an ace to guide the Ospreys to a .293 hitting percentage and a win.
Both matches will be streamed for free on SWOOPLife Live. The contests are hosted at Swisher Gymnasium as the UNF Arena continues to undergo renovations.
