HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - North Florida women's cross country secured a top-five finish at the ASUN Championship on Saturday morning.
After placing seventh in last season's meet, the Ospreys were stronger this year, surpassing nine ASUN teams, including programs such as Jacksonville, Central Arkansas, Stetson, Bellarmine and Queens. The women maintained a fifth-place rank on the leaderboard, despite several individual placements of Jacksonville and Central Arkansas inside the top 30. UNF outranked in-state competitor, FGCU, newcomers, Queens (N.C.) and Austin Peay, and contenders, Jacksonville State, Bellarmine and Stetson.
Sophomore Emma Jane Schlageter was the top Osprey for the first two meets of the season and returns to that mark on Saturday. Schlageter initiated a slow pace at the start of the race, trailing behind Mia McLain in 33rd. Her pace soon changed when she swiftly moved up seven slots between the 3.2k checkpoint and the finish line, coming out on top in 24th overall.
