TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Despite dropping a heartbreaker with doubles partner
Rodrigo Crespo in the doubles main draw round of 16,
Jonas Hartenstein advanced through three rounds of singles play to move on to the back draw singles semifinals Saturday, Oct. 22. Teammate
Breno Marques also picked up a pair of three-set wins to move on to the back draw singles quarterfinals.
Hartenstein and Crespo came up a tiebreaker short against No. 14 Kevin Huempfner and Hunter Robbins of FAU, falling 8-7 (8) just short of the quarterfinals.
Hartenstein came to play in singles though, sweeping Juan Martin Jalif of Miami, as well as Bruno Oliveira of USF. After a walkover in the quarterfinals, Hartenstein finds himself in the semifinals of the consolation singles bracket.
Marques got in position to meet Hartenstein in the semifinals after he grinded out two three-set match victories. The sophomore defeated rival, Randy Wilson, of FGCU in three frames. He returned to knock off Dimitris Paliouras of Georgia Southern in tiebreaker fashion. He will meet Franco Aubone of Miami tomorrow at 9 a.m., with the winner advancing to face Hartenstein.
Lefty
Bruno Vietri nearly nabbed his own back draw singles win before coming up just points short against FAU's Huempfner in the first match of consolation singles.
PJ Kotan was ousted narrowly in three frames against No. 16 Nacho Serra Sanchez of Miami.
