JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis brought in five ASUN postseason honors highlighted by
Andreas Scott sweeping ASUN Player & Scholar-Athlete of the Year, along with ASUN Doubles Pair of the Year with
Bruno Vietri, as released by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
The reigning 2024 ASUN Regular Season and Tournament champions saw three different players take home five postseason honors from the conference. On top of Scott's accolades this season,
Youssef Labbene added on an ASUN All-Freshman Team selection, followed with Vietri making the ASUN All-Academic Team to go with his ASUN Doubles Pair of the Year.
Scott, who was ASUN Tournament MVP in 2024, went from playing on courts four and five last season to elevating to the top court this year with an unblemished 8-0 ASUN record. With two ASUN Player of the Week honors and a 3.94 GPA while majoring in accounting, Scott follows in the footsteps of former teammate
Jonas Hartenstein as an Osprey to sweep the big three superlative awards for a second straight season.
Labbene becomes the first Osprey since Scott during the 2023 season to make the ASUN All-Freshman Team. Vietri's selection to the ASUN All-Academic squad makes it four straight seasons for UNF with an academic distinction from the conference.
COACH'S THOUGHTS
"I am so fired up for our guys and so proud of their accomplishments during the regular season! They worked so hard all year to be great teammates and these awards are just a byproduct of that work. Andreas [Scott] saw tremendous growth from last season to this season and stepped up for us as a player and a leader, Bruno [Vietri] had a goal for himself this year to play No. 1 doubles for us and not only did he do that but he worked with Andreas to now be the best doubles team in the ASUN, and Youssef [Labbene] had a tough transition coming in January and to see him find his footing at the end of the season is very exciting. I'm also proud of our guys for their recognition in the classroom as well. Now it's time to compete as a team in the tournament. Go Ospreys!"
