JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In a game that saw 13 lead changes, 10 tie scores and an extra five minutes added for overtime, the final play of the night decided the fate of the game as UNF men's basketball dropped its ASUN home opener to Stetson, 68-66, at the buzzer in overtime Saturday, Jan. 8.

Tied 63-63 going into overtime, Carter Hendricksen hit a three-pointer just under a minute into the extra session, helping give the Ospreys (4-11, 0-2 ASUN) the lead for the next three minutes and 52 seconds. With just over two seconds on the clock, Stetson's Rob Perry missed a jump shot that resulted in a Hatters (7-8, 1-1 ASUN) offensive rebound. Off the in-bound pass, SU's Chase Johnston put up a pump fake and fired, hitting the game winner as the buzzer sounded.

North Florida led for 22 minutes and 38 seconds, while the Hatters had the lead for over 15 minutes. Just as it was at FGCU Wednesday, the game was knotted up at 55-55 with under five minutes to go.

The Ospreys put up an 8-2 run from that point on, but the Hatters responded with the final six points of regulation, using a pair of Perry free throws with one second on the clock to force five more minutes of play.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
1st Half

Tied 9-9, a 6-2 spurt put the Ospreys up 15-11 … Stetson found its best rhythm of the first half with an 11-0 run … a monstrous Jadyn Parker dunk in transition broke Stetson's run, although the Hatters would widen their lead to nine with two minutes and 20 seconds on the clock … Carter Hendricksen made a second chance bucket and Jarius Hicklen made a pair of free throws to get UNF within five at the break.

2nd Half

For the second session all told, UNF outscored the visitors 37-32 … Placer, a threat from the outside, did his damage in the paint with physical play that helped him get to the line and make seven free throws … Stetson's lauded threat in Rob Perry answered on the other end, scoring 19 on 8-for-13 from the floor in the second half, including his clutch free throws at the end of regulation … Stetson only got to the line four times in the entire second half … speaking of Placer's play in the paint, his layup with 16:33 gave UNF its first lead of the second half at 36-35 … North Florida and Stetson saw the lead change three times during a stretch that had the Ospreys up six, their biggest lead of the game … North Florida matched that lead at 63-57 with 2 minutes and 23 seconds on the clock … Perry went on a 6-0 run by himself to even the game and force overtime … UNF missed a pair of free throws with 15 seconds to go, allowing Stetson to get another look, resulting in Perry's game-tying free throws.

Overtime

Only eight combined points were scored in overtime … Hendricksen's three pointer was UNF's lone bucket of the overtime period … Johnston bookended overtime with his own buzzer-beating three from the wing in front of Stetson's bench.
