
MATCH NOTES: UNF Looks to Build Momentum Against Undefeated FIU

Jacksonville, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer (2-1-0) will look for back-to-back victories after Friday's win against Mercer when they face Florida International (3-0-0) in another home battle on Tuesday evening at 6 pm.
Nationally ranked-FIU has started the season with a 4-0 victory over No. 13 UCF, as well as a 1-0 win over ASUN-opponent FGCU and a 1-0 win against No. 12 VCU on Saturday evening. Their game against UNF will be their third road match in four total games played.
FIU has plenty of depth with five different players scoring goals for them so far this season. Junior David Garcia is their leading goal scorer with two goals in their first three games.
Their goalkeeping has also been stellar throughout the start of the season, as graduate student Grant Maleka has seven total saves and has not allowed any goals through their first three games.
Fifth-year senior Matias Barraza their leading returner from last season with nine points cumulated through five assists and two scores. He also had the best shots on goal percentage on the team last season out of players with more than five shots on goal.

- Ospreys are 3-4-1 all-time against FIU with all matchups being within the past decade.

- Joaquin Acuna leads the team in goals as a true freshman with three scores over three games.
- All three of Acuna's shots on goal have turned into goals for the Ospreys, including two game-winners against Georgia State and Mercer.
- The Ospreys are looking to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Mar. 27, 2021, when UNF defeated Jacksonville, 3-0, and then Stetson, 1-0, a week later.
- Senior Jovoney Brown scored the only goal in last season's road victory against No. 25 FIU in the 42nd minute of play.
- Senior LJ Estes and junior Herbie Steigelman are the only two players on the team to not be subbed out during any of the three games played so far this season.
- A win on Tuesday against FIU would give UNF their best start to a season through four games since 2016, when the Ospreys went 3-0-1.
