Swimming Makes Long Awaited Debut at UNF Competition Pool

FINAL MEET RESULTS

JACKSONVILLE -- The 2021-22 North Florida swim team made a successful on-campus home debut with a sprints and relays meet at the UNF Competition Pool.

The meet marked the first hosted by the Ospreys on campus since 2014. North Florida was joined in the inaugural competition by teams from FGCU, Georgia Southern, Rollins, Florida Tech and Florida Southern.

Along with traditional meet events, Saturday's competition also included some non-traditional relays like multiple 300yd races featuring three swimmers, 500yd free relay with each of four competitors swimming distances of 50yd increases and a 400yd individual IM relay showcasing each swimmer completing a 100yd IM.

"This was a very good day in the history of our program," said UNF head coach Ian Coffey. "Having our first meet here on campus in the new pool was amazing. We had some very good swims and I was happy with the racing. Taylor Warren, Annie Fletcher and Lexi Calder had great days in the pool. With the season starting, we have no time to rest as we move on to next Saturday against Georgia Southern for our Senior Day."

Sophomore Taylor Warren got the Ospreys started off strong in the meet's opening event, earning a second-place finish in the 50yd backstroke with a time of 27.43. Warren added a fifth-place showing in the 100yd backstroke, clocking a time of 59.73. She also led off the Ospreys 300yd Back Relay trio that finished second in a time of 3:00.91.

Annie Fletcher, a senior for UNF, had a seventh-place finish in the 100yd backstroke (1:00.38), teammed with Warren on the second place 300yd relay team and anchored the Ospreys 500yd free relay squad that earned a runner-up finish (4:46.74).

Sophomore Lexi Calder had highlights of finishing 10th in the 50yd breaststroke (31.73) and 7th in 100yd breastroke (1:08.75).

North Florida recorded some other strong finishes in relays capped by a third-place showing in the 400yd Free relay (Marcia Shaw | Ashley Kephart | Gabriella Reeves | Ashley Cozad).

The Ospreys next hosts their first dual meet competition when Georgia Southern returns to the UNF Competition Pool on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Noon. North Florida will recognize its senior class prior to the start of the meet.
