Five Things: Softball Hosts UCF, Travels to FGCU

JACKSONVILLE - North Florida hosts No. 20 UCF in a doubleheader Wednesday before continuing ASUN play at FGCU Saturday and Sunday in Fort Myers.

Home softball games are closed to the public. Admission is only via team pass lists and for a limited number of UNF students. Fans must wear masks while in attendance with the exception of eating or drinking. Please check our COVID Protocols page for any updates.
 

WHAT TO KNOW

  • The Ospreys (9-9) took the home series against Jacksonville in several close games. UNF won game one, 3-2 in eight innings thanks to an RBI double from Rebecca Koskey. JU took the next game, 2-0. On Sunday, North Florida won the rubber game, 1-0.
  • Sophomore Shannon Glover is leading the team with a .350 average and a team-high 21 hits and seven doubles with 10 RBI.
  • Kayla McGory tops the team with 11 RBI and owns a team-high eight walks. She is hitting .273 and has seven stolen bases.
  • In the leadoff spot, senior Taylor Engman seems to hit a stride as she is batting .321 and leads the team with 10 runs. 
  • In the circle, Morgan Clausen and Halle Arends have combined for an 8-5 mark with 77 strikeouts. Clausen has a 2.85 ERA, while Arends owns a 1.24 ERA.
 

OPPONENT NOTES

UCF (17-3)
  • Jazmine Esparaza tops the team with a .464 average and is tied with Kenneday Searcy with 26 hits. 
  • Hitting .429, Georgia Blair owns a team-best 23 RBI and 11 walks for a .911 slugging percentage.
  • In the circle, Gianna Mancha and Alea White are the top hurlers. White has a team-best 65 strikeouts, while Mancha has 63. The pair has combined for seven shutouts and a 16-1 mark onthe season.

FGCU (12-10, 3-0 ASUN)
  • FGCU swept Stetson to open ASUN series, outscoring the Hatters 16-9. 
  • Hope Hernandez leads the team with a .339 average and is 4-4 in stolen bases. 
  • The reigning ASUN Player of the Week Reedy Davenport leads the team with 10 RBI along with Taylor Bauman. Davenport is hitting .302 with five doubles, while Bauman tops the team with three home runs. 
  • Bauman also pitches with a 2-4 record, 2.13 ERA and 15 strikeouts. The Eagles ace, Marissa Mesiemore, is 6-4 on the year in 12 appearances with a 3.74 ERA. Sarah Lawton leads the team with 31 strikeouts.
  • The Eagles own an 18-12 series edge, but North Florida edged them in the 2019 ASUN tournament in a pair of games.

North Florida heads out on the road for a pair of games at USF Wednesday, March 24 before continuing conference play at Stetson.
