Graduate Student Becomes Second Osprey in UNF Volleyball History Named Twice
GREENWOOD, Ind. - Graduate student Gabby O'Connell added to her lengthy career résumé by being named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Fall 2021 Academic All-District First Team as announced by the national organization Thursday, Nov. 18.Â
The 2021 Academic All-District Women's Volleyball Team is selected by sports information directors who are members of CoSIDA. The team honors the nation's best student-athletes on account of their performance on the court and in the classroom. Career, season and classroom accolades are considered during the selection process.Â
O'Connell, a first team honoree, is up for consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, announced in mid-December.
O'Connell was a recipient of the same honor last spring, making her just the second Osprey in UNF Volleyball history to be named to the award in consecutive years, and the first since Alysia Kern in 1998 and 1999.Â
The outside hitter is the only CoSIDA All-District First Team honoree in UNF Volleyball's Division I history. To boot, she's also the only Osprey in program history to be recognized as the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year.Â
A Gainesville, Fla., native, O'Connell is one of three Ospreys in program history to surpass 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs, 100 blocks, 100 aces and 100 assists. She touts a 3.4 undergraduate GPA in biology and a perfect 4.00 GPA in her MS of Exercise Science and Chronic Disease.Â
O'Connell and the Ospreys are just hours from first serve against Lipscomb in the ASUN Championship Quarterfinals from Fort Myers, Fla.
