UNF Swims Duals against Florida State, Tampa

JACKSONVILLE - Heading out to its fourth meet in 10 days, North Florida swimming now travels to Tallahassee to face off with No. 15 Florida State and Division II program Tampa Wednesday. The meet is set up to be scored as two duals.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • North Florida is seeking its first win of the season. It is coming off of three meets in seven days as it opened with FGCU, traveled to Florida and then faced of with CCSA foe Georgia Southern.
  • Ryan Showfety won the 500 and 1000 freestyle against the Eagles Saturday afternoon in Statesboro, Ga.
  • The week marked the debuts of seven Ospreys including six freshmen.


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Florida State is 2-2-1 on the season and is coming off a loss to No. 22 Auburn Wednesday, January 20. Most of the Seminoles top times were set at the Georgia Invite when they faced off with Georgia and Georgia Tech in a three-day event. FSU went 1-2-3 in the 100 back and Rebecca Moynihan placed first in the 50 free, while Jenny Halden finished at the top in the 100 fly.

Tampa will get its first go as it has yet to compete in 2020-21. The 2019-2020 conference Swimmer of the Year Courtney Sherwood is back for her senior season. She was invited to compete in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 butterfly, and 200 backstroke at last year's NCAA championship. Sherwood is joined by four other swimmers who were recognized as All-Conference swimmers last season. 

AGAINST THE OPPONENTS
North Florida is 0-6 against Florida State. The teams last met in 2019 with FSU taking a 260-47 win. 

This will be the first meeting against Tampa in a dual meet. North Florida and the Spartans last swam against each other in the 2017 Panther Invite at Florida Tech.
