THE FACTS: Softball Travels to Boca Raton for FAU Classic


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Florida softball heads south to Boca Raton to play LIU, FAU, Hofstra and Illinois State in the FAU Strike Out Cancer Classic.

North Florida softball opened the Osprey Classic with a 10-2 win against Alabama A&M to give Coach Marcie Higgs her 400th career victory.

LAST TIME OUT
  • North Florida split a double header against Ball State Sunday, winning the first 7-2 before dropping the second, 10-1.
  • Taylor Engman went 3-for-3, had two runs and a RBI.
  • Kayla McGory went 2-for-3 and recorded a RBI and a walk.
  • Skyler Stockie threw seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
LIU (5-5)
  • The Sharks are coming off two-straight wins in the Trojan Classic against Loyola Marymount and UC Davis. 
  • Kiana Cisneros leads the team in batting average (.313) and recorded a three-hit game against Army. 
  • Victoria Lowe is the ace for the Sharks, throwing a complete game against Georgetown earlier this season, allowing an earned run on five hits. 
  • The Sharks are coached by Roy Kortmann in his 26th year. 

FAU (3-6)
  • The Owls dropped a 10-0 contest to UCF in the final day of the UNF Knight's Classic. 
  • Lynn Gardner has two wins over Power 5 schools with 20 punchouts, earning C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week. 
  • Jolie Duffner leads the Owls in hits (7) and batting average (.280). 
  • Joan Joyce enters her 26th year at the helm for the Owls. 

Hofstra (1-4)
  • The Pride have lost their past two games to Stanford (1-0) and Drake (8-0). 
  • Kasey Collins and Lindsey Hay both lead the squad in batting average (.286). 
  • Nikki Mullin headlines the starting rotation with a 3.07 ERA and threw seven innings of three-run ball against Drake, striking out one. 
  • Jay Miller coaches the Pride in his second season. 

Illinois State (3-7)
  • The Redbirds are coming off an 11-5 win over Detroit Mercy in the Arizona State Littlewood Classic. 
  • Emme Olson recorded a homer and five RBI in the win over Detroit Mercy. 
  • Mack Leonard leads the team with four home runs and 10 RBI. 
  • Melinda Fischer enters her 36th season with the Redbirds.
