JACKSONVILLE -- North Florida head women's soccer coach Eric Faulconer announced the addition of graduate transfer goalkeeper Mercedes Sapp to the 2020 roster.
Sapp joins the UNF program as a midyear transfer after three seasons at the University of Missouri. An SEC Academic Honor Roll performer in the classroom while at Missouri, she posted a shutout against Iowa in 2018, recording seven saves.
"I was familiar with Mercedes coming out of high school and saw her play often with her Orlando City Club team," said Faulconer. "She is extremely athletic and very confident. She played behind an All-SEC goalkeeper at Missouri and she was looking for a program as a graduate transfer where she could come in, compete and make an impact. I believe we can provide that opportunity for her. She commands the box well, can make the big time save and is good with her feet. We are excited to have Mercedes on campus this spring and look forward to see how she can help our program."
A Windermere, Fla. native, Sapp was a highly decorated goalkeeper coming out of Lake Highland Preparatory School and Orlando City ECNL in 2016. She earned All-State honors and was the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Class 2A State Player of the Year. Sapp also garnered First Team All-Area honors from the Orlando Sentinel. She is the daughter of NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp.
