North Florida Welcomes ASUN Leader Liberty


JACKSONVILLE - North Florida softball is coming off of a midweek win against Florida A&M and now prepares to jump back into ASUN play against ASUN leader Liberty, Saturday and Sunday for the three-game series.

TEAM NOTES
  • UNF moved to 22-14 and stands at 4-5 in the ASUN. Head Coach Marcie Hickey has now had 20 or more wins in all of her 11 seasons. She is currently four wins away from 300.
  • With their big bats against Florida A&M, UNF improved to hitting .285 on the year and moved into first in the ASUN. 
  • Tiffany Lower now leads the ASUN with three triples after hitting one against the Rattlers.
  • Junior Rindy Bryant is on a four-game hit streak - her longest of the season, while Makeznie Griffin has reached base in four straight games.
  • Senior Navia Penrod ranks eighth in the conference with 40 hits. In league-only play, Penrod is third with a .444 average and fifth with 12 hits.
  • Pitcher Sydney Matzko currently owns a 11-7 mark to sit fifth in wins. She is eighth with 74 strikeouts on the season and sixth in ASUN-only play.

RECORD WATCH
  • Penrod is chasing the ASUN career record (285) held by UCF's Stephanie Best as she has 256 on the season.
  • Classmate Dominica Cocuzza needs nine doubles to tie the school record held by Kelly Lee.
  • Cocuzza currently has 120 career RBI, 24 shy of the record. Her 31 RBI this season is the best for her four-year career.
  • Matzko is currently trying to break the top 10 strikeout list. She has 216 and needs 12 to take the 10th spot in just two seasons of work with UNF.

- The teams have only met once before with the Ospreys grabbing a 9-3 win on March 18, 2011 in Clearwater, Fla.
