Softball Continues Homestand with Osprey Classic

UNF hosts six teams, playing four at the Osprey Classic beginning on Friday. Ball State, UNCW, Charleston Southern and Presbyterian logos appear.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a busy midweek, North Florida softball stays at home to host the Osprey Classic, welcoming six teams to the UNF Softball Field, playing four contests beginning on Friday.

North Florida Ospreys
  • UNF is currently 9-6 with a record of 6-1 at home.
  • The Ospreys are 7-3 in their past ten games and look to continue their success on the field this week as they host the Osprey Classic on March 8-10.
  • Senior Dominica Cocuzza is batting .558 with 24 hits and 15 RBI through the first 15 games of the season.  Cocuzza is also ranked 15th in the country in total batting average with the seven girls in front of her playing less than 10 games so far this season.
  • Pitchers Morgan Blourne and Sydney Matzko lead the way in the circle as they both have racked up three wins and have an ERA of under 2.75.
  • UNF currently ranks third in the ASUN in ERA (2.54) and batting average (.290).

North Florida has a midweek game against Georgia Southern before heading to Clearwater for five games beginning on Friday, March 15.

  • Currently on a two-game win streak with wins over Lehigh (3-0) and North Carolina A&T (9-1)
  • Has wins over Iowa State, UNCG, and two against Rhode Island; two losses are to No. 1 Florida State
  • Three girls for the Seahawks are batting over .300 (Janel Gamache - .346, Jada Santiago - .314, and Carson Shaner - .308)
  • On Feb. 12 Rylee Pate was named CAA Pitcher-of-The-Week after she authored a 2-0 record with an ERA of 0.81.

Ball State Cardinals (14-9)
  • The Cardinals competed in the USF-Clearwater Invitational last weekend with a 1-4 mark; losses against USF, Iowa and South Carolina
  • Most recently won a doubleheader (1-0, 2-0) at Bethune-Cookman on March 6
  • Sarah Venker tops the team with 31.1 innings pitched and an ERA of 0.89. 
  • Alyssa Rothwell was named MAC Pitcher of the week on Feb. 19.
  • Team ranks second in their league with a 2.90 ERA
  • Ciolli Bartlett earned her 100th win as the coach of the Ball State Cardinals on Feb. 24.

Charleston Southern Buccaneers (5-18)
  • Currently on a six-game losing streak, falling to Duke, NC State, Kansas and College of Charleston to name a few.
  • Senior Annie Bakenhus leads the team with a .333 batting average and a team-high 22 hits.
  • Picked to finish fifth in the Big South preseason poll.
  • Looking for their first win on the road (0-3)

Presbyterian College (4-13-2)
  • Competed in the Madeira Beach Tournament to open March and came home winless with losses against Villanova, Chattanooga, Siena, Detroit and Central Michigan.
  • Three players on the team are batting above .300 (Ansley Wilbanks, Jonnie Petree, and Chelsea Lyons) with Wilbanks leading the team with 23 hits and 11 RBI
