Inside the First Half
Jacksonville scored the first four points and held the Ospreys off the board for nearly four minutes to start the game. UNF's offensive struggles continued as the squad would score only one basket in the final 6:22 of the period. The Dolphins held a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter
JU netted the first six points of the second quarter before North Florida halted a 13-0 run for Jacksonville with three points. An 11-2 run to conclude the first half saw the Dolphins carry a 33-9 lead into intermission. Â
Inside the Second Half
After the Dolphins hit a three to start the third quarter, North Florida began to find its offensive flow scoring the next six points. Minutes later, UNF mounted a 10-2 spurt that pushed the deficit below 20. From that point, the squads would trade baskets until the end of the period with the Ospreys trailing 52-31 heading into the final frame. UNF outscored JU in the third quarter, 22-19, after scoring just nine points in the first half.Â
Jacksonville was able to keep the margin above 20 until the Ospreys rattled off 11 straight points beginning with a pair of free throws from Janesha Green with 3:22 remaining in the game. Jazz Bond dropped in five consecutive free throws followed by a layup by Emanuel-Wright. UNF's rally continued with the margin trimmed to as small as 10 points, 71-61, with 37 seconds left.Â
Osprey Fast Breaks
"It was a tough game. We can't score nine points in a half and expect to win a game and that's what it comes down to. Defensively we could have done some things a little bit better but offensively in the first half we were as bad as we've been all year. That to me was the difference. I thought we came and fought back well in the third quarter, but didn't trim the deficit enough. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves for the fourth quarter. We battled and competed and put ourselves in position to make it interesting. If we make a couple more shots down the stretch especially a couple of those threes. We finished the fourth quarter as well as we could considering the circumstances but you can't get that deep in a hole against a team that is as good defensively as they are." - Head coach Darrick Gibbs.
