Ospreys Take Doubles but No. 24 Florida Takes Match, 4-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF took the early lead by winning doubles, but No. 24 Florida (2-2) rallied back to claim the match, 4-1, at the UNF Tennis Complex Saturday, Feb. 16.

The Ospreys (3-3) were strong from the get go in doubles, taking number two and one doubles. The duo of Rafaela Gomez and Constanza Gorches claimed number-one doubles while sophomore Valentina Mariotto and freshman Ana Paula Melilo claimed number two doubles.

No. 24 Florida returned with strong play in doubles, taking four straight matches while Lucia Montano and Mariotto's matches were left unfinished at number one and three singles.

Cobra's Comments:
"Although we didn't get the outcome we wanted, I'm pleased with how we started in doubles. This is for sure the first match that we've had all of our three doubles teams applying all that we have worked on, and thus we earned the point. We gave ourselves chances in singles and I liked the way we carried ourselves, but unfortunately they were better than us. But, as I said, there were a lot of positives from this match and I'm looking forward to continuing to get better tomorrow." -- head coach Mariana Cobra.

UNF is back at home tomorrow when it hosts South Alabama at 11 a.m.

Notes:

This is UNF's first home loss of the season.
Saturday was the first time UF and UNF met in Jacksonville.
No. 24 Florida is the second ranked opponent UNF has faced in as many matches.
This was the first meeting between these two teams since they met in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
