UNF Takes on Reigning SEC Regular Season and Tournament Champions


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A midweek challenge awaits the Ospreys when they head to No. 4 Florida Wednesday, Feb. 13, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. from Gainesville.

Last Time Out:
ORLANDO, Fla. - Freshman Morgan Clausen went the distance in her first-career start for the Ospreys, although No. 24 Ohio State (3-0) got enough run support as North Florida (0-2) dropped a 3-0 decision to the Buckeyes Saturday, Feb. 9.

Veteran Presence
  • Seniors Navia Penrod and Dominica Cocuzza highlight a strong returning class for the UNF Softball team, and both received Preseason All-ASUN Honors.
  • Tiffany Lower and Kayla McGory round out returning players that appeared in 50+ games.
  • Sydney Matzko and Morgan Blourne are set to share time on the rubber, as they combined for 87% of starts on the mound in the 2018 campaign.
  • Penrod was also selected to Softball America's first-ever Top 100 Team February 7.

  • Freshman Veronika Klimplova played with the Czech Republic Women's Softball National Team and hit .471 with her club team.
  • Junior Taylor Engman joins a solid outfield core after two years at State College of Florida. Engman finished last year with a .374/.415/.469 line for the Manatees.
  • The Ospreys have 7 freshman on the squad, most by a single freshman class since 2011.

  • UNF's games against George Mason and UCF originally scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10, were rained out.
  • Senior Megan Woodson is leading the Ospreys through two games, hitting .600 (3-for-5) with a pair of stolen bases against Ohio State.

Scouting the Opponents - No. 4 Florida
  • The Gators have started the season 5-0, sweeping their stay at the USF Opening Weekend Invitational. UF topped Illinois State, No. 19/14 Michigan, No. 7/6 Arizona, NC State and USF.
  • UF finished 2018 56-11, winning the SEC Regular Season and Tournament titles. It would reach the College World Series Quarterfinals.
  • Senior hurler Kelly Barnhill and senior Amanda Lorenz were recognized as 2019 Preseason All-SEC Team selections.
  • Barnhill, Lorenz and Kendyl Lindaman were all named to the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List.
  • UF is hosting Team Japan in an exhibition, Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.
