JACKSONVILLE - North Florida swimming kicks off the season against CCSA foes FGCU and Campbell on Friday.
1. LAST SEASON WRAP
North Florida debuts its 2019-20 squad in the home opener against FGCU and Campbell. Last season FGCU finished second in the CCSA, while Campbell finished just two spots ahead of UNF in fifth. The Ospreys finished in seventh which was the best place under head coach
Ian Coffey.
2. COFFEY TALK
"Looking forward to Friday's meet! Campbell and FGCU are two of the best teams in the CCSA and swimming against both teams to start off the season is a real test for our program. We will get a first look at our team against tough competition and what we will go up against when we are at the peak of our training in February. The team is also excited because the meet is on a Friday and hoping for a good crowd."
3. BROKEN RECORD
Junior
Camryn Greenleaf broke the 50-yard free school record with her time at the CCSA Championship, swimming at a 23.60 for the event. She took almost an entire second off of her time from the beginning of the season.
3. LOOKING BACK
In the 2017-18 season, North Florida had just 12 night swims at the CCSA Championships. Last season, the Ospreys pulled together 44 total final swims as the talent and depth grew on the roster.
4. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
FGCU is coming off a second-place finish in the CCSA, falling to Liberty for the first time since 2014. It will be looking for revenge to get its 10th conference championship since 2009. Head coach Dave Rollins returns for his fourth season. The Eagles have 14 returners and 13 freshmen on their squad. In 2019, four Eagles achieved NCAA B Standard times, but no one made it to the NCAA Championships. Petra Halmai (100 breast) and Cassidy Fry (200 fly) both return for the Eagles.
Campbell wrapped up the 2018-19 season with eight school records after the CCSA championship. The Camels posted a 9-5 record with a 6-1 mark in CCSA competition. Returning for her second season, sophomore Annie Sanchez looks to best her own record that she set at the CCSA meet in the 100 free. Campbell welcomes back 23 returners from the team that finished fifth at the CCSA Championship.
