The Senior Posts Game-High 24 Assists to Hit Milestone Saturday Night
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Â - Senior setter Madilyn McCarty surpassed 3,000 career assists, but the Ospreys couldn't get past a hot FGCUÂ squad Saturday, September 22 at the UNF Arena.
FGCU 3, UNF 0 (20-25, 16-25, 13-25)Â
Behind the Box Score
- UNF (5-12, 0-2 ASUN) climbed back into the first set with a late 9-3 run, but an nine-point deficit couldn't be overcome as FGCUÂ (9-5, 2-0 ASUN)Â escaped with the first set. Redshirt-sophomore Gabby O'Connell had five kills and five digs in the opening set.
- Set two was McCarty's best on the evening as she registered 10 assists to reach the career feat. She now has 1,780 assists in the Navy and Gray and 3,009 all-told in Division I.
- The Eagles were lifted by six of sophomore Cortney VanLiew's 20 kills to secure the second set.
- FGCU saved its most effective set for last, hitting .367 in the concluding set.
Leaders by the Numbers

- Taryn Griffey | Nine kills, four total blocks
- Callie Workman | 13 digs (game high)
- Madison Donnelly | 10 digs (sixth double-digit dig performance)

- The loss snaps a two-match winning streak against the Eagles at home.
- This is the 27th match between FGCU and UNF, tied-for-sixth all-time for the most meetings between UNF and an opponent.
Wright's Words
"We are focused on one thing at a time right now from having a competitive mentality, being aggressive and committing to what we have committed to at the beginning of the season in terms of effort and attitude," head coach Kristen Wright said. "The feedback is that we need to have a balanced attack. Tonight Gabby O'Connell was hot and FGCU made an adjustment."
