LakePoint, Ga. - For the first time in history, Kennesaw State University won the Bill Bibb Trophy, which is awarded to the ASUN institution with the top overall athletic program. North Florida claimed the Jesse C. Fletcher Trophy for the fourth-straight season, while FGCU earned the Sherman Day Trophy for the fourth-straight year as well. This marks the first instance in which each trophy was won by a different institution.
Kennesaw State scored the highest points in six sports with Regular Season titles in Volleyball and Softball, while earning ASUN Championship crowns in Women's Golf, Women's Outdoor Track & Field and both the Men's Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field. The Owls added championship trophies in Volleyball and Softball as both sides earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearances. In total, KSU amassed 240 out of a possible 339 points to finish ahead of FGCU & North Florida.
For the Men's All-Sports Trophy, North Florida topped Lipscomb and KSU as titles in Tennis and Golf propelled the Ospreys to their fourth Fletcher Trophy. A runner-up finish at Cross Country coupled with top-four performances in Soccer, Baseball & Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field aided the Ospreys' point percentage ending the year with 120 out of a possible 165.
With three ASUN Regular Season titles and three other top-three performances, FGCU collected the Day Trophy with the top-producing women's athletic department. The Eagles edged out Kennesaw State and Jacksonville with league trophies in Basketball, Tennis and a split Regular-Season title in Soccer. The Eagles finished as regular season runner-ups in Softball, Beach Volleyball and third in Volleyball to guide FGCU to its fourth-straight trophy.
Points for the ASUN All Sports titles are awarded on a descending basis in three-point increments. A minimum of 50 percent of full-fledged members must participate in a sport for that sport to be counted in the all-sports standings. The total number of points available for each sport is established according to the number of teams participating in each sport.
In team sports, points are awarded based on regular-season finish. In individual sports (cross country, golf, track & field) points are awarded based on the ASUN Championship standings. Ties split points, and the final All Sports standings are based on percentage. Each institution's percentage score is determined by the aggregate calculation of each institution's points earned divided by the maximum points available to that institution.
The ASUN Conference is a NCAA Division I league with eight member institutions committed to Building Winners for Life. The ASUN meets the challenge of maintaining the highest standards in academic and athletic achievement with a true balance between student and athlete. The ASUN includes a blend of the most prestigious and dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University. Liberty University and the University of North Alabama will join the league for the 2018-19 season.
