Softball Readies for Final Series at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - North Florida softball preps for its regular season finale as it travels to FGCU looking to secure a spot in the ASUN Tournament beginning on Friday.

SERIES HISTORY: FGCU leads 17-13
LAST TIME: FGCU knocked UNF out of the ASUN Tournament in 2017 with a 3-0 win. During the regular season, UNF went 2-1 against the Eagles in Jacksonville.

  • North Florida needs to grab two wins at FGCU to secure its spot in the ASUN Tournament. If UNF loses the series, results of the Jacksonville/Stetson games effect the outcome.
  • Coming off a weekend of batting .500, junior Megan Woodson earned the team's first ASUN Player of the Week honor. She had two doubles and scored three runs, while recording two RBIs.

  • She is now tied for seventh in the all-time UNF records in single-season hits. She set the record last season with 87.
  • Classmate Dominica Cocuzza is just one double shy of tying her career-best of 16 set last season. She currently has 15 to lead the league and 33rd in the nation.
  • In the circle, Sydney Matzko is 85th in the country with 136 strikeouts, while ranking fifth in the ASUN. She enters the weekend with a 12-17 mark and a 2.15 ERA.

OPPONENT NOTES
  • FGCU can lock up the No. 2 seed with a sweep of the Ospreys or drop with any other results.
  • Racquel Fournet paces the Eagles with her .393 average with 57 hits and a team-best 13 doubles and 30 RBI on the year. The two-time ASUN Player of the Week also has a squad-high 21 walks on the season.
  • Kelsey Huff is second in the lineup with a .294 average on 48 hits with a team-best 28 runs scored and is 19-for-19 in stolen bases this year.
  • Pitcher Riley Randolph is coming off of a Pitcher of the Week honor with a 0.47 ERA in 15 innings of work. Randolph leads the staff with 123 strikeouts and a 15-6 mark. She is part of a trio of hurlers with a sub-2.00 ERA.
  • Marissa Mesiemore is also a mainstay in the circle with 83 innings of work and a 10-4 mark, while Morgan White owns a 1.57 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.

LOOKING AHEAD
North Florida is looking to secure a spot in the ASUN Tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 9. The seeding and schedule will be announced on Saturday after the final games.
