GAINESVILLE - No. 40 Miami took down North Florida men's tennis in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on a hot Friday afternoon at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex.
NOTES
- This is the first meeting between Miami and UNF in the postseason.
- In doubles play, Alberto De Mayo and
Nilo Duarte came back from 4-1 down and defeated the Miami pair, 7-5.
- North Florida got sets from
Till Von Winning and
Nilo Duarte. In the previous NCAA outing, each Osprey went down in straight sets.
- Four-year senior
Lasse Muscheites finishes his career with a 64-50 record in singles and a 78-30 mark in doubles play. De Meo finished with 17 victories in singles and 12 in doubles. In his two year career,
Jefta Kecic leaves UNF with a 27-30 singles mark and a 30-16 doubles record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami made quick work in the No. 2 doubles before De Meo and Duarte battled back to even it at 1-1, leaving the deciding match to the No. 1 position.
- North Florida had a 4-1 lead in the top spot, but the nationally-ranked duo of Christian Langmo and Andria Soriano pushed back and eventually forced the tiebreak. The Canes then went on to win, 7-5, to give Miami the 1-0 lead.
- In singles play, Miami pulled ahead with a win in the No. 3 position for the 2-0 advantage.
- Muscheites put up a tough fight against the No. 125 Langmo, but it was not enough as Langmo got the win in the No. 2 position.
- Shortly after, No. 6 Nile Clark clinched the match for the 4-0 victory.
