Softball Travels to Clearwater Spring Break Classic

Softball plays five opponents across six days in the Clearwater Classic.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball continues its 2018 season on Friday in the Clearwater Spring Break Classic. The Ospreys are slated to face five opponents over the three-day tournament.

QUICK HITS
  • Junior Navia Penrod comes into the weekend with a conference leading .477 average to go along with 41 hits which also leads the league. She is currently sixth in the UNF recordbook in career hits with 187.
  • Kayla McGory enters play on Friday with a seven-game on-base streak which has bumped her average up to .259. The sophomore is hitting .352 during her current streak with five runs scored and a pair of runs batted in.
  • Sitting second in the NCAA with 10 doubles, junior Dominica Cocuzza is second on the team with a .314 average. Cocuzza also leads the team with 13 RBI.
  • Senior Alex Arciola and sophomore Mary Rodriguez carry three-game on-base streaks into the weekend as well.
  • Senior Amanda Blanchard hasn't allowed an earned run in her last 14.1 innings pitched, which carries over her last three outings. Blanchard sits with a 4-0 record and a 1.91 ERA, while picking up a pair of complete games.
     
OPPONENT NOTES

LIU Brooklyn
  • The Blackbirds enter the weekend with a 7-16 record after falling 6-5 to FAU on Sunday night.
  • Victoria Zamora tops LIU with a .371 average with four doubles and 11 runs driven in.
  • Leading the Blackbirds with three long balls, Ryleigh Bermea also has a team-high 14 RBI.
  • UNF won 4-1 in its only other meeting against LIU Brooklyn last year.

Buffalo
  • The Bulls come in with a 7-10 mark after dropping a 2-0 decision to Seton Hall last time out.
  • Freshman Anna Aguon leads the way hitting at a .382 clip with 21 hits and three doubles on the year. Aguon also has three homers and knocked in 14 runs.
  • In the circle, Ally Power paces the Bulls at 5-6 with a 4.11 ERA, while striking out 50.
  • North Florida picked up a 6-5 win in February of 2015 against Buffalo at Troy in the only prior meeting of the two schools.

Butler
  • Butler (8-12) is led by Jenna Foreman with a .418 average and 14 stolen bases.
  • Alyssa Graves leads the way with a 4-4 record and a 1.61 ERA. Graves has 47 strikeouts, while picking up six complete games.
  • The two teams met earlier this season as the Bulldogs grabbed a 2-0 shutout win over the Ospreys.

Quinnipiac
  • For the second straight weekend, the Bobcats take part in the USF series and now own a 5-11 record.
  • Quinnipiac is led at the dish by Erin Larsen with a .325 average as she's hit a pair of long balls and knocked in a team-high 12 runs.
  • Casey Herzog leads the Bobcats in the circle with a 4-6 record and a 1.49 ERA.
 
USF
  • USF brings a 10-game winning streak to the weekend with a 17-12 record following a 5-0 shutout of Maine on Wednesday.
  • Lindsey Devitt paces the team with a .403 average as she's picked up four home runs, while knocking in a team best 26 runs.
  • Eight different Bulls have hit home runs this season with Mia Fung leading the way with five.
  • On the rubber, Cheyenne Eggens leads USF with a 4-1 record and a 1.60 ERA. Eggens has picked up a pair of complete games, while striking out 26 and walking only two batters.

LOOKING AHEAD
North Florida has a midweek doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman on March 21 before beginning ASUN action at Jacksonville on Saturday and Sunday.
