JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida baseball team collected its first series win of the season with a 9-6 victory over Southern Illinois on Sunday at Harmon Stadium.
LEADING OFF
- Raff Libuano, Tanner Murphy and Wesley Weeks all extended their reached base streak to seven and lead the team.
- Murphy and Weeks have also now had a hit in every game this season.
- UNF put a runner in scoring position in six of the eight innings they batted, including the first four straight.
- Four Osprey batters had a multi-hit game, while Weeks led the team going 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
- North Florida cracked back-to-back home runs for the first time since April 6, 2016 at Florida A&M.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern Illinois started the scoring off in the third inning when Connor Kopach hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Bradley Harrison.
- The Ospreys responded when Weeks singled to the left side that plated Jay Prather and tied the game.
- With two outs in the fourth innings, Rey Gonzalez drove a double down the right field line. He later scored on Prather's double to left center to give the Ospreys their first lead of the game.
- UNF then produced back-to-back home runs from Murphy and Libuano.
- The Salukis cut into the deficit with two runs on three hits in the fifth inning.
- SIU then took the lead on back-to-back home runs from Alex Lyon and Logan Blackfan.
- Alex Martinez tied the game with a single to the right side that drove in Libunao.
- The Ospreys reclaimed the lead for good when Max Law doubled to right center bringing home Weeks and Martinez.
- Chris Berry then closed the scoring when he doubled to right center that brought in Law.
