No. 3 North Florida Readies for No. 6 Jacksonville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - North Florida softball garnered a third seed in the upcoming ASUN Tournament where it faces off with No. 6 Jacksonville in the postseason edition of the River City Rumble rivalry on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m. EST at Draper Diamond.

SWOOP FACTS
  • North Florida leads the ASUN in doubles per game (0.47) and is second in the league in batting average (.297) and doubles per game (1.47)
  • All-ASUN first team selection Navia Penrod is hitting .413 with 12 doubles, one triple, and two home runs, while slugging .515 with 28 RBI. She is second in the country with 81 hits and needs just two more to break the UNF single-season hit record. 
  • Freshman Kayla McGory, the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, owns a .363 average with 12 doubles, four triples, and five home runs. She garnered freshman team honors with a .586 slugging percentage with 47 RBI to lead the team.
  • Sophomore Dominica Cocuzza, who was named to the All-ASUN first team, has also been making an impact with 45 RBI and 18 doubles to rank in the top 20 in the nation. She has a .359 average on the year.
  • In the circle, senior Logan Green owns a 13-15 record with a 2.43 ERA to lead the Osprey pitching staff. She has a team-high 93 strikeouts in 187.0 innings of work.
  • Her counterpart, freshman Morgan Blourne (10-5), has taken some time off, but is still second with 86 Ks with 18 starts in 27 appearances and nine complete games through 110.2 innings of work.

SERIES HISTORY: UNF leads 20-10
LAST MEETING: The Ospreys took the series against the Dolphins to clinch a spot in the ASUN Tournament. JU was able to grab one win against UNF in the second game of the series, but senior Logan Green in her two outings kept Jacksonville off the board.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
  • Heather Roberts leads the ASUN in on-base percentage (.475) and is tied for fourth in the league with 39 RBI.
  • Four Dolphins are hitting above .300: Heather Roberts (.352), Allie McCourt (.337), Madison Ragan (.322), and Ciara Jones (.306).
  • Roberts leads the team with six home runs, including two grand slams, while Ragan (5) and Bethany Kursch (5) are next on the team.
  • Taylor Thorpe is the Dolphins' top hurler with a 3.00 ERA with 18 starts through 32 appearances (119.0 innings of work).

With a win, the Ospreys go on to face No. 2 Kennesaw State on Thursday at 11 a.m.  With a loss, UNF goes to the consolation bracket to play the loser of the FGCU/Lipscomb game on Thursday at 4 p.m. The tournament is a double elimination bracket with the championship game currently scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. EST.
