UNF Continues ASUN Play Against Kennesaw State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball continues ASUN action against Kennesaw State for a three-game series beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m. for two games followed by a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

SWOOP FACTS
  • After taking the series from FGCU with back-to-back wins on Saturday, UNF then lost on Sunday before falling to No. 3 Florida on Wednesday, 5-1.
  • Sophomore Navia Penrod is now batting a league-best .463 and ranks 14th in the nation after recording two hits against Florida.
  • The 2017 team is now in the UNF Division I record book with 58 stolen bases. The previous record was 57 set by the 2013 team. In the full records, the Ospreys are tied for second with the 1993 team.
  • The Ospreys leads the league with 22 double plays and now owns the program record. The team ranks 11th in the nation with double plays per game with 0.59.
  • The team is just behind Kennesaw State in batting average with a .316, but the Ospreys lead the league with 58 doubles.
  • North Florida is also chasing the fourth spot in the overall record book in average as the 2000 team finished with a .318.
  • Senior Logan Green is leading the pitching staff with 80 strikeouts and a 2.27 ERA to rank seventh and eighth, respectively, in the ASUN

LAST MEETING: On April 3, 2016, UNF won 3-2 at Kennesaw. The Ospreys took two of the games from the Owls last season.

QUICK HITS
  • The Owls opened its conference season winning a two out of three against both Stetson and Upstate putting them at No. 1 in the ASUN.
  • Logan Viers was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, while Taylor Denton was honored as Player of the Week for their performances against Upstate.
  • Viers recorded a win against Samford, a 2016 NCAA Regional participant, allowing only one run on two hits. On the weekend, Viers threw a complete game against USC Upstate. She held the high-powered Spartans offense to just one run and did not allow a walk.
  • The senior pitcher now owns a 2.51 ERA with 56 strikeouts and a 9-4 record.
  • Alley Cutting is third in the ASUN with her team-best 1.76 ERA and 132 strikeouts while owning a 14-5 mark.
  • Courtney Sutter leads the ASUN in RBI (34) and home runs (11). With a .389 batting average, Shutter ranks third in the ASUN.

North Florida heads to Daytona Beach to face Bethune-Cookman for a doubleheader in a non-conference mid-week match up on Wednesday, April 12 starting at 1 p.m.
