Ospreys Outlast Penn for 3-2 Win in Game 2 of Series

The Short Story: The North Florida baseball team won its fifth consecutive game behind another strong pitching performance by Frank German, as the Ospreys outlasted Penn, 3-2, to win the second game of the weekend series on Saturday at Harmon Stadium.

LEADING OFF 
- Frank German upped his season record to 3-0 after posting his third straight quality start. German scattered 4 hits over 6 innings of work while striking out 6 and allowing just one run
- The Ospreys also got quality relief work from Matthew Naylor, who earned his first save of the year, striking out 4 of the 5 batters he faced.
- North Florida collected 8 hits, all in the first six innings, with six different players picking up a hit
- Tanner Murphy and Wes Weeks led the offense with two hits each and both players also drove in a run in the game
- Yahir Gurrola extended his season hitting streak to 8 games with an infield single
- Penn finished with six hits including three doubles, but struggled to get timely hits leaving eight runners on base
- A trio of Quaker relief pitchers held UNF hitless over the final two innings of the game
- With the win, North Florida has now won or tied all three of its home weekend series of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- The Ospreys got on the scoreboard first after manufacturing a run in the bottom of the second. Tanner Murphy led the frame off with a single and moved to second on a hard groundout to third. He would move to third after an errant pickoff attempt throw by Penn hurler Jake Cousins sailed into centerfield. Wes Weeks followed with an RBI single, giving UNF the 1-0 lead.
- UNF added two more runs in the third after stringing four consecutive singles together from Patrick Ervin, Alex Merritt, Blake Voyles and Tanner Murphy. Voyles and Murphy both picked up RBI.
- Penn threatened to score their first runs of the series in the top of the fourth, loading the bases after drawing a pair of walks from Osprey starter Frank German. However, German induced an inning ending flyout to leave the runners stranded on base.
- The Quakers opened the 7th inning with back-to-back doubles down the righfield line, plating their first run of the season. The pair of two-baggers ended the day for German, who was relieved by Cooper Bradford. That is all the damage done for Penn in the frame.
-  A leadoff double for Penn in the eighth by Matt O'Neill proved costly to UNF. O'Neill scored on an RBI single for Tim Graul, after moving to third on a wild pitch. A pair of Osprey relievers (Tyler Dupont and Matthew Naylor) came in and squelched the Quaker rally attempt.
- In the ninth, Naylor made quick work of the Quakers as he struck out the side to get the save
