The Short Story: The North Florida baseball team grabbed an early lead before having to score a late run to earn a 5-4 victory at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night. The Ospreys and Wildcats will meet again on Wednesday night in Jacksonville.

LEADING OFF
- The Ospreys notched runs in each of the first three innings  and led 4-1 before watching the Wildcats even the score with a 3-run output in the 6th inning.
- UNF improved to 19-8 all-time against Bethune and have now won two straight and 6 of the last 7 against their in-state foes
- North Florida is now 9-2 when scoring in the first inning and 15-1 in games that they score first
- Seniors Patrick Ervin and Alex Merritt both tallied a pair of hits and each drove in two runs to pace a balanced UNF offense that saw 7 of 9 starters record a hit... Blake Voyles also tallied a multi-hit performance
- Junior standout Yahir Gurrola had his 10-game hit streak snapped, going hitless for just the fourth time all season
- Anthony Delaney continued his stellar pitching out of the pen, working 2.0 scoreless innings to earn the win. Delaney allowed just one hit and struck out 5 of the 7 batters he faced
- Closer Matthew Naylor pitched a perfect 1.1 innings to pick up his fourth save of the year

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Blake Voyles got things rolling with a one-out double to left field and moved to third when Chris Thibideau followed with a single through the left side. Thibideau stole second to move into scoring position for Alex Merritt, who delivered, smashing a two-run double down the left field line.
- Wesley Weeks started off the second with the Ospreys third double of the night and advanced to third on a groudout by Dalton Board. Voyles collected his second hit of the night and first RBI, posting a single to left.
- Bethune-Cookman got on the board with a solo run in the bottom of the second thanks to a pair of Osprey errors with two outs.
- UNF pushed its lead back up to three runs in the top of the 3rd when Chris Berry singled and went to second after Christian Diaz was hit by a pitch. Both Osprey runners moved into scoring position after a wild pitch that drew a pitching change for BCU. Ervin greeted the new Wildcat hurler with an RBI single back up the middle, giving UNF the 4-1 lead.
- After a pair of scoreless frames, Bethune rallied with three runs in the sixth off of UNF reliever Alex Smith. After BCU opened the frame with a walk, the Ospreys recorded a pair of outs. A single followed by a triple plated two runs for the Wildcats and the final run scored on a wild pitch by Anthony Delaney.
- The Ospreys answered quickly in their next at-bat, retaking the lead with some two-out magic. Berry earned a walk and Diaz pushed him to second with a single. Ervin then followed with an RBI single to left that proved to be the game winner.
- In the ninth, UNF erased a pair of would be runners including a pickle pickoff for the final out.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Ospreys host the Wildcats for the second part of the home-and-home set on Wednesday (Mar. 29) in Harmon Stadium at 5 p.m.
