TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The North Florida cross country teams continue their impressive seasons Friday morning in the NCAA South Regional at the University of Alabama's Harry Pritchett Running Park . The women's 8k championship begins at 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET), followed by the men's 10k race at 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET).
The UNF women's team, who is ranked 10th in the latest USTFCCA South Region poll, hopes to continue its success following an ASUNÂ team championship on Oct. 28. Senior Eden Meyer claimed her second straight individual ASUNÂ title and also looks to match or better her Top 10 finish at last year's South Region meet, where she finished 8th.
The Osprey men, currently ranked 10th in the USTFCCCA South Region poll, are coming off a runner-up finish at the ASUN Championship meet. All five scoring runners for UNF finished in the Top 12 at the meet. North Florida posted a ninth-place showing at last year's South Regional.
Regional Notes:
- Bama's Harry Pritchett Running Park has hosted the NCAA South Region meet in three of the last five seasons
- Ospreys raced on course earlier this season at the Crimson Classic (Oct. 13) with the men's team finishing 7th and the women earning a 9th. Eden Meyer was second individually over the 6k layout while Nick Morken paced the men in 9th for an 8k race
- The men's team has finished Top 10 in two of the last three NCAA South Regions highlighted by a program best 5th in 2014... Former standout Michael Damato owns the school's best finish (12th) and 8k time (30:42.4) at the event, with both accomplishments coming in 2014
- UNF women have a pair of Top 10 showings at the South Region, with a 9th-place finish in 2011 rating as the program's best... Eden Meyer's 8th-place finish in 20:23.1 both rank as program records
- North Florida is seeking its first team or individual NCAA Championship qualifier as a DI program
Thoughts from Coach Pigg:
"The women's team is fresh off their ASUN win and are looking forward to competing in the Region meet.  Eden Meyer, who was 8th last year, looks to qualify for the NCAA championships. Last year, she ran well and is in even better shape this year. I feel everyone on our team is ready to run their best race of the year. It will be great to see how we stack up against everyone in the region. The men are really looking forward to another chance to race. They have prepared very well for this year, and we were not satisfied with the outcome of the ASUN meet. We are really hoping to finish out the season on a high note. In many cases, these guys are in the best shapes of their lives and we are looking to have some results to validate their fitness. It could be a very exciting weekend."Â
