Ospreys Head Out to Lipscomb, Kennesaw State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's soccer continues through the heart of the ASUN schedule as the Ospreys head north to Lipscomb on Friday before trekking to Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.

SHORT STORY: After wins against Jacksonville and NJIT, North Florida sits atop the league standings with six points. The Ospreys own their best record since the 2012 season.

LAST TIME vs. LIPSCOMB
Last season, the Ospreys went down 1-0 in the first half and then let an early goal in the second half to sit back 2-0. Sarah Wasser scored on a penalty kick, but it was all the Ospreys could muster. Lipscomb took 12 shots to UNF's eight and led 5-3 on corner kicks.

Last TIME VS. KENNESAW STATE
The Owls have won the last two meetings, including a 2-1 victory last season in Jacksonville. Last season Gabrielle Liguori netted the game-tying goal, but five minutes later the Owls struck again to take the game in Jacksonville. The Ospreys narrowly outshot KSU, 14-13 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

ASUN SUCCESS
With the win against NJIT, North Florida currently sits in first place ahead of Stetson in the ASUN standings. With two wins the Ospreys have six points.

SPREADING THE WEALTH
Eight different Ospreys have now recorded a goal this season after Sarah Wasser scored the game-winner against NJIT. She bent the ball into the upper right corner on a free kick. 

BEST START!
North Florida owns an 8-3 record which is the most wins for the Ospreys since 2012. With one more, UNF will have the best mark since the 2011 season. The Ospreys finished 4-4-1 in ASUN that year.

YOU MISS THE SHOTS YOU DON'T TAKE
North Florida is 8th in the nation in shots on goal with 8.91 chances per contest, while Thais Reiss ranks 11th in the country total shots per game (4.88).

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Lipscomb
  • Ellen Lundy leads the team with three goals, while Leah Cenicky has two goals and two assists to match in points.
  • Jade Abarca has made scoring opportunities three times for teammates, while also scoring a goal of her own.
  • In the net, Kate Mason is the main netminder with 10 starts, posting a 1.29 GAA and a 3-4 record.
  • Lipscomb had its game against FGCU postponed last week and then played to a tie at Stetson on Sunday. 
  • The Bisons own one ASUN win when they beat NJIT, 3-0 on the Highlanders home field.

Kennesaw State
  • The Owls have four players with multiple goals. Ashtah Das tops the team with four, while Erin Harris, Abby Roth and Ida Hepsoe have two goals each.
  • Redshirt freshman Tiffany Sornpao is tied for the ASUN Conference lead with five shutouts and is second in the conference with 50 saves.
  • Das is fifth in the ASUN in points (10) and goals (4).
  • Kennesaw State fell 3-0 to Stetson Friday in DeLand, Fla. After a scoreless first half, the Hatters scored three second-half goals to post the victory.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Ospreys come back to Hodges stadium for its final home game on Saturday, Oct. 14 to face off with Stetson.
