Dodging the Weather: The storms have been chasing the Ospreys in the early going of the 2016 season. Friday night's game against Kent State was canceled due to the imminent threat of Hurricane Hermine. Last Sunday, the Ospreys had their road game against Charleston Southern cut short at the 76-minute mark due to lightning.
Last Time Out: A week ago the Ospreys were on the short end of a 3-0 decision at Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers scored a pair of second half goals in the weather-shortened contest. Goalkeeper
Victoria Ekeli played all 76 minutes for the Ospreys and made four saves.
First Meeting: Sunday will be the first ever meeting between Alabama State and North Florida. Both teams are searching for their first wins of the 2016 season.
Newcomer Impact: Sophomore
Kelli Crowley has started the last two games for the Ospreys and logged 195 minutes in four games. She is credited with the Ospreys lone goal this season that helped force a draw with Georgia Southern on Aug. 26. She is third on the team with six total shots.
About Alabama State: Despite the threatening weather around the State of Florida on Thursday and Friday, the Hornets were able to get their non-conference match at Jacksonville in on Friday night. The Dolphins jumped out to a commanding, 3-0 lead at the end of the first half and ultimately defeated Alabama State 4-1. Junior forward Ariela Lewis scored the long ASU goal in the contest, the 30
th of her career. She needs just one more assist join the 30-20 club among active players in Division I soccer. Only two others are currently members of the exclusive club. The Hornets are coming of a 9-11-1 season that included a 7-3 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
