
Volleyball Starts ASUN Play at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida volleyball kicks off its ASUN Conference play at crosstown rival, Jacksonville, to begin the River City Rumble series on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in Swisher Gym.
QUICK HITSÂ
- UNF is 5-6 against JU under head coach Steve Loeswick and just 5-10 against the Dolphins in Swisher Gym.
- JU has finished North Florida's season in the last two years after knocking the Ospreys out of the ASUN Tournament.
- North Florida is currently 3-2 in three-set matches and 3-1 in five-set matches.Â
- This is the third straight season with UNF playing Jacksonville to start its ASUN season. Â Last time it opened at JU, the Dolphins won, 3-0.
SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
The Dolphins have had a rough start to the season with a 3-9 start to the season and are currently riding an eight-game losing streak.. Freshman Mallory Mattingly leads the team in kills (117) and aces (9), while also ranking third on the team with 108 digs. Junior Jessica Armstrong has a team high .263 hitting percentage and 27 blocks. Running the offense is setter Jizzyan Gesualdo with 351 assists. As a team JU is hitting .148 and rounding out at 11.58 kills per set.
NATIONALLY KNOWN
Senior Morgan Van Alstine now ranks seventh in the nation in total blocks with 72.0, while the team overall is seventh in the same category.
BLOCK PARTY
The team had a program-best 20.0 blocks against FAMU with three players setting career bests: Katarina Raicevic (8), Morgan Van Alstine (12) and Madilyn McCarty (6)
"TURN"ER IT AROUND
Junior Carinne Turner has been killing it on all aspects of the floor. She has now led the team in kills in three straight matches and four overall on the season.Â
DOUBLE YOUR FUN
Turner and freshman Gabby O'Connell lead the team with seven double-doubles each.
KILLIN' IT
Thanks to four players in double-figure kills and two just behind, North Florida is 12th in the nation and 2nd in the ASUN in Team Kills (747).
ON THIS DAY (Sept. 23)...
The Ospreys are 8-1 on September 23 in program history with their lone loss coming in 2006.Â
LOOKING AHEAD
North Florida comes home to UNF Arena to continue ASUN play, hosting conference-powerhouse Lipscomb on Friday at 6 p.m., while Kennesaw State plays the Ospreys on Saturday at 5 p.m.
