Regional Rankings: In the first edition of the National Collegiate Soccer Association Southeast Regional rankings, the Ospreys came in at No. 6. The Ospreys spent the majority of the 2015 season in the top-10. The Ospreys are one of three ASUN teams (Lipscomb-#3; Stetson-#7) ranked in the NSCAA Southeast Regional Rankings.
Smoak Honored: Junior Micah Smoak was named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Ospreys to a shutout last Friday against Winthrop and tallying two goals over the weekend. He is the first Osprey to claim defensive weekly honors since 2013.
Multiple-goal Scorers: Smoak and Kovacs, who both have two goals through two games, are two of the four multi-goal scorers in the ASun. Kovacs, the Ospreys top returning goal scorer from a year ago, set a new career high with two goals last Friday night against Winthrop. After converting a penalty kick on Friday night, Smoak added a goal on a set piece on Sunday night.
Freshman Impact: After his first two college soccer games, Cormac Begley is tied for the league lead with two assists. He single-handedly created the second Osprey goal against UNCG on Sunday, dribbling around three defenders to deliver a cross to the waiting Aidan D'Mello on the far back post.
Career Point Leader: Senior Simen Solstad enters the weekend as the Atlantic Sun's active career point leader with 24. Kovacs is not far behind him with 21, the third most among active scorers in the league.
Stroll down Memory Lane: Friday will be the first match against former ASUN foe Campbell since 2010 when the Camels bolted for the Big South. During Campbell's tenure in the ASUN they held won four of the six meetings against North Florida. The Camels have won the last three games in the all-time series by a combined score of 7-1.
Record vs. ACC: The Ospreys are 0-2 against ACC opponents all-time. Monday night's matchup will be the second-straight year the Ospreys face an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. Last year the Ospreys suffered a 2-1 loss to No. 2 North Carolina. The only ACC other ACC foe for the Ospreys was to No. 2 Duke (5-0) in 2006.
About Campbell: The Camels dropped their only scheduled contest last weekend, a 4-1 loss at home to UNC Wilmington. Campbell scored the first goal of the game but went on to surrender four, unanswered scores including three in the second half. In the 2016 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll, Campbell was picked to finish fourth after a 10-9 record last season. Second year Head Coach Dustin Fonder returns 13 letterwinners including 2016 All-Big South selection Josh Signey.
About N.C. State: The Wolfpack received 23 votes, the second most of any team outside the NSCAA Top-25 in the first poll of the 2016 season. N.C. State is coming off a 1-1 weekend at the James Madison Tournament, suffering a 1-0 loss to Radford before prevailing over host JMU, 3-2 on Sunday. Before Monday night the Wolfpack will engage in a rare non-conference tilt with rival North Carolina on Friday night. Ade Taiwo, Lukas Zarges and Julius Duchscherer each have tallies for the Wolfpack through two games.
