JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team takes on USC Upstate in its final conference series of the season this Saturday and Sunday at the UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys (19-27, 5-10 A-Sun) are in seventh place in the conference standings, with the top six teams earning spots in the A-Sun tournament next week in Fort Myers, Fla. The Ospreys sit a game behind Kennesaw State in the standings. The Spartans (37-12, 9-5 A-Sun) are in first place in the conference and have already clinched a spot in the conference tournament.
This weekend also marks the final home games of the regular season and a celebration of the efforts of this year's senior class.
Shelby Duncan – OF – Bartow, Fla.
A two-year letterwinner, Duncan has played and started in every game in her North Florida career. Duncan has totaled four home runs, 32 doubles and 58 RBIs, batting .368 across two seasons. Duncan currently leads the conference in doubles. Duncan was also named First Team All-Atlantic Sun in 2015, and was named Preseason All-Atlantic Sun this season.
Katie Mandigo – IF – Winter Springs, Fla.
A four-year letterwinner, Mandigo has started in 149 games, hitting four home runs and 63 RBIs. Mandigo was also a member of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Regular Season title team. Mandigo cuurently ranks third on the team in batting average.
Stacy McClelland – 1B – Live Oak, Fla.
A two-year letterwinner. McClelland has started and played in 100 games for the Ospreys, totaling 14 home runs, 20 doubles and 66 RBIs. McClelland holds the school record for home runs in a season with last year's mark of 13. McClelland also ranks eighth in the all-time leaders for home runs in a career. Last season, McClelland earned First Team All-Atlantic Sun, and NFCA All-Region Honors. Prior to this season, McClelland was named the Preseason A-Sun Player of the Year.
Janet Snipe – P – Cocoa, Fla.
A two-year letterwinner. Snipe has pitched in 43 games over her two years with the Ospreys, totaling nine wins, 30 strikeouts and three complete games.
Lexi Taylor – OF – Jacksonville, Fla.
A four-year letterwinner. Taylor has played in over 200 games and earned over 180 starts across her four-year career. Taylor is also a member of the 2013 Regular Season Atlantic Sun Championship team. One notable game from this past season was a 4-for-4 performance with a home run and four RBIs in a comeback win against Winthrop.
The action starts with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single-game Sunday at 1 p.m., Saturday's games will be carried live on ASunTV, while all three games will feature live stats.
