JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis gets back into its non-conference line up with a match against former Atlantic Sun rival ETSU on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Courts.Â
The Ospreys, who have been off since February 26, enter Thursday's match with a record of 4-3 with all three losses coming to teams in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings. Juniors Michelle Valdez (13-11) and Quetzali Vazquez (10-15) have been the team's top players so far as they both have reached doubles figures in victories in singles action. In double action, Luise Intert and Rafaela Gomez own a 4-2 mark at the No. 2 position, while Valdez and Hannah Fluhrer are 4-3 in duals. Gomez has been leading the No. 5 spot and has dropped just one match during her semester with UNF going 5-1 in duals.
ETSU is currently 10-1 on the season, losing its first match against No. 66 Winthrop on Sunday (March 6). The Bucs boast winning percentages of .825 and .821 in singles and doubles, respectively. Leading these efforts for ETSU are freshman Marina Espana and sophomore Melissa Esguerra. Espana is 9-0 in singles and 8-1 in doubles with her partner Ioanna Markesini, while Esguerra is 7-0 in singles contests and 7-1 in doubles play.
North Florida heads out for Spring Break against VCU and South Alabama in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Ospreys return home on March 19 to take on Southern Illinois before gearing up for conference action.
