DeLAND, Fla. – After dropping its opening match, 4-1, North Florida beach volleyball responded with a 3-2 victory against No. 9 Stetson on a sunny afternoon at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts to begin Atlantic Sun play.

The loss is just the second for the nationally-ranked Hatters who move to 14-2 and 4-1 in the A-Sun. UNF improves to 10-3 on the year with a 1-1 mark in league action.

Junior Carina Hoff and redshirt freshman Brittany Pase opened up the victories with a 21-18, 21-20, win at the No. 5 court. After snapping their nine-match winning streak in the opening match, senior Ambre Desaulnay and freshman Chaney Howard moved to 10-1 as they battled to a 23-21, 24-22 win in the No. 4 court.

With the Ospreys ahead, 2-0, junior Kimberly Ferguson and senior Lauren Ford grabbed a 21-18, 21-18 win to secure the victory.

In the first match, reigning A-Sun Pair of the Week Courtney Miller and Katarina Raicevic grabbed the lone victory for UNF with a 21-19, 21-15 win at No. 3. The pair now moves to 9-4 on the year.

The Ospreys continue their conference play against FGCU and Mercer at Estero Community Park on Friday and Saturday. UNF plays the Eagles on Friday at 11 a.m. before facing off with the Bears at 1 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, it will be Mercer up first at 10 a.m. before playing FGCU to close out the weekend.
