Box Score JACKSONVILLE - Three different matches could have clinched the match for North Florida men's tennis, but it came down to a victory from senior
Julian Bradley to win his third set to give the Ospreys a 4-1 win against No. 64 Georgia State on Friday morning at the UNF Tennis Complex.
UNF moves to 4-9 on the season with all four wins coming against nationally-ranked opponents while Georgia State snaps a five-match winning streak and moves to 9-4.
With the match at 3-1 in the Ospreys' favor, three matches were competing in the third set. It was Bradley though who the spotlight was on as he dropped his first set 6-4 before coming back with a 6-1 victory in the second. The lone senior then battled out in the final frame and eventually his opponent hit the ball into the net for a 6-4 win at No. 3 and gave UNF the victory.
"We had a good week at practice and we focused on responding to our two tough 4-3 losses," said Bradley. "We faced some adversity with some people being injured, but we really focused this week on being a team and really fighting for each other. I thought it really showed today and we had a lot of fun - starting with the doubles point and then translated to singles. We had guys that were down a set and then they came back and it helped with our momentum for those guys to close out the second sets."
Like its three matches before, UNF grabed the doubles win with points at No. 2 and No. 3.
Lasse Muscheites and
Zach Goldberg won their third straight doubles match, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot before the Panthers tied it up with a victory in the No. 1 position. It came down to freshmen
Jonathan Deautriell and
Sahil Deshmukh who stepped up for a 6-4 win.
In singles, Muscheites extended his winning streak to six matches with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Zackery Kennedy. Muscheites was down at break point during the first set, but rallied back to win the set and eventually shut out his foe in the second set.
Junior
Yannick Zuern made it 3-1 for UNF with a three-set victory in the No. 1 position. Zuern picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory against Jannis Koeke. With Bradley, Goldberg and Deshmukh all in their third sets with close scores, it was Bradley who clinched the match for North Florida. Goldberg was winning when the match was called after responding from a set down to shut out his opponent in the second.
North Florida now heads down to USF to take on VCU, the Bulls and Pepperdine on Friday through Sunday, respectively.
