Day 3 Results (PDF)ATHENS, Ga.. – In what is now becoming a daily occurrence, the North Florida swim team established two more school records on the third day of Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming Championships. In three days, the Ospreys have taken down five school records.
In the morning preliminaries, freshman
Kaleigh Newcomb swam a time of 56.70 in the 100 backstroke, breaking Amanda Anderson's time set back in 2010. She followed her record-breaking swim with an eighth place finish in the evening finals session. Her finals time of 56.92 would have also eclipsed the school record and is officially the second fastest 100 backstroke time in school history.
Newcomb continued her blazing fast day by helping break the 400 medley relay. She swam the first leg with a split of 57.30, the sixth fastest 100 backstroke in school history. She teamed up with
Lauren Kelso (Breaststroke)
Amy Taylor (Butterfly) and
Chase Walker (Freestyle) to establish a new school mark of 3:50.54 and an eighth place finish.
The Ospreys had eight qualifiers in Friday's evening finals session. Walker swam the 6
th fastest 100 butterfly time (57.13) in school history in morning preliminaries. She placed 14
th in the evening finals session (57.77) while
Emily Draskovich (57.88) placed 22
nd and
Marinda Kitchen (58.08) placed 24
th.
Freshman
Lauren Kelso was the top Osprey finisher in the 400 individual medley with a prelim time of 4:33.61 and a finals time of 4:34.45.
Shelby Panter shaved more than seven seconds off her prelim time in the evening finals session with a time of 4:41.03.
After three days the Ospreys as a team find themselves in eighth place with 310 points. North Florida scored 324 points in four days at last year's meet.
Competition will conclude at the University of Georgia on Saturday with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay.
