UNF All-Time Top 10ATHENS, Ga. – In the very first event of the 2016 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming Championship, the quartet of
Kaleigh Newcomb,
Lauren Kelso,
Chase Walker and
Janie Kennedy broke the school record in the 200 medley relay.
The relay combination surpassed the previous school record set by Amanda Anderson, Taylor Crosby, Kelsey Bobzien and Kimberly Kuehl back in 2010 by just .63 seconds. It marks the third school record (200 Fly & 1000 Free) Head Coach
Ian Coffey's squad has taken down this season.
The Ospreys placed eighth out of 16 teams in the record-breaking race, earning 44 points towards their team total.
In the only other race of the night for North Florida,
Amy Taylor,
Taylor Schmidinger,
Emily Draskovich and
Kiana Albert placed eighth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:34.26, the fastest of any relay combo this season and just over two seconds off the school mark.
Taylor, who led off the race turned in a 200 freestyle split of 1:49.46, a new personal best and the fourth fastest in school history.
After the first day of competition, the Ospreys are in eighth place with 90 points.
Action continues tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 freestyle and the 200 free relay. Swimmers will look to qualify for the evening finals session set for 6:00 p.m.
