JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- In the closing stretch of the regular season, the North Florida basketball team hosts Atlantic Sun newcomer NJIT in a battle of top ranked teams Thursday in UNF Arena at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3 and carried on 1010XL AM and 92.5 FM.
The Ospreys (18-10, 7-4 ASun) look to rebound following a string of four consecutive losses. UNF will be playing at home for the first time since having their 18-game home win streak snapped on Feb. 1 by Stetson. North Florida dropped a tough 94-87 decision on the road Saturday against Lipscomb. In that game, Dallas Moore collected the 30th 20-point outing of his career leading the way for UNF with 27 points while Beau Beech tallied his fifth career double-double finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
NJIT (16-11, 7-4) is in its first season of play in the Atlantic Sun and was tabbed as one of the preseason favorites to claim the conference title. The Highlanders have won five straight games coming into Thursday's tilt and are tied with the Ospreys and Jacksonville atop the league standings. NJIT is led by Damon Lynn with 18.4 points per game.
Moore enters Thursday's contest needing just six points to become the all-time leading scorer in UNF basketball history. In addition, Trent Mackey is just a trio of three-pointers shy of becoming just the second player in UNF history to make 100 treys in a season.
Thursday has also been designated as the "Change for Change" game with fans encouraged to bring and donate their spare change to the American Cancer Society.
After facing the Highlanders, North Florida wraps up its regular season home slate Saturday against USC Upstate at 7 p.m. UNF's senior class will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
